Processors: Buying guide

The processor is the most important part in the computer as it will control the speed and make sure that all the functions in the computer work well. With the advancement of technology, today it is hard to keep track with the latest processor. Buying a new quad core, dual core processors or Intel Centrino processors could give you a major headache but, just follow this guide and you will be alright.

Factors

The slot

– The most important factor that you should check before buying the processor is the processor’s slot whether it will fit with your motherboard or not. Either Intel or AMD these are the two common processor in the market these days and the slot will determine whether you should buy Intel processor or AMD processor.

The cache memory

– Next thing that you could check is the cache memory the processor has to offer. Cache memory is the place where the processor will store all the data the computer had fetch temporarily before executing any command. The higher the cache memory, for example 2 MB will give your computer a faster processing speed.

The clock-speed

– Next, you should look at the processor’s clock-speed measured in gigahertz. This clock speed represents the number of operation cycles that the computer can perform in a second. The higher the clock speed, the faster the processor will process all the command even though there are lots of programs running at the same time. Today, the most common processor comes in either 32-bit or 64-bit for the clockspeed.

The Front side Bus

– The Front side Bus (FSB) is the one that will determine how fast all the information being crunched in the computer because this is the primary connection between the motherboard and processor. You need to make sure that the FSB of your processor is supported by the motherboard before buying or else your computer will start to crash. A normal motherboard will support an FSB with speed of 533 MHz to 1600 MHz.

These are the basic guidelines that you should follow when buying a processor. With a bunch of processor to choose for from different manufacturers, you need to make sure that you buy according to your work needs or else all the powerful performances will go wasted.
