What do people use network cards for? Network card is usually used for a laptop or a computer to connect to the internet. Network cards are connected to the computer using the RJ-45 port and for laptop – a network card is usually connected through the PCMCIA port.
PCMCIA network cards are usually needed for the old types of laptop or computers since old versions of the computer was not able to connect to the internet without a network card.
You need to really check whether your laptop or your computer really needs a network card to connect to the internet.
How to check?
For computer, just look behind your CPU and try to see if there is an ADSL port available or not. If not, then you need a network card for you to connect to the internet.
How does an ADSL port look like?
An ADSL port looks like a port where you can plug in your home phone-line but the size is slightly bigger.
How to check for the laptop?
All you need to do is the same. If you cannot find any ADSL on your laptop, you need buy a network card. However, remember that a network card for a laptop is different from computer since they each use different types of ports. Therefore, you need to mention which types do you need when buying the network card.
– One other thing that you need to take into consideration is the speed of data transfer of the network card. The faster it is, the better it will be.
– From my personal experience, the price of a network card is much more expensive than a USB-modem. A USB-modem is much more convenient for usage since you can directly connect it to the USB-port on both laptop and computer.
It is also much smaller in size and it allows four types of connection which are GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, and HSDPA. The fastest is HSDPA and all this connection depends on the internet package you choose when registering with your internet service provider.
Final word
There are network cards made just for you so that you can connect to a wireless internet connection from your modem. To buy this, you need to ask the nearest gadget store in your area since all types of PCI network cards look almost the same.
