Hubs: Buying Guide

Hubs are useful devices that help you to control a network of multiple computers from a remote location. Different types of hubs are available in the market as per your requirements. It is good to check their authenticity before buying.

Features to look for

While you decide to buy one of those hubs to establish a network of multiple machines using star topology, there are certain things that you need to take care of, such as:

Auto-sensing:
Hubs with dual-speed 10/100, also termed as auto-sensing hubs, can operate flexibly at both 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps, respectively. Hence, for networks that comprise of 10/100 Mbps hardware, this feature could do loads of good.

Stacking ability:
Stack-able hubs are useful in circumstances where you want to stack different hubs together as a single unit to ensure far better performance over the single hubs. If you wish to have the same features, make sure to opt for stack-able hubs.

Support for SNMP:
You will be able to control your hub from any of the network locations if it supports Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Having this feature in your hub could help you to keep a regular check on error summaries, network’s traffic level and so on.

Types of hubs:
Distinct types of hubs are available in the market to satisfy varied needs related to networking management.

You can buy any of them depending on your specific requirements. These include:
· Passive hubs
· Active hubs
· Managed hubs

You can order your preferred network hubs from an online store or from a shop in your vicinity. In either case, make sure to confirm the authenticity of the device before buying. Sometimes, vendors may sell you defective models that could create problems later on.
