Not every feature-rich vacuum cleaner has to be an expensive purchase. This article outlines the core features of a vacuum cleaning device while providing simple tips to help you choose one from a host of discount vacuum cleaners.
Based on the basic design of vacuum cleaners, they can be broken down into four major kinds.
– Upright and canister vacuum cleaners are the most commonly used types in households.
– Central vacuum cleaners, despite their ease of use, are very bulky and require professional installation.
– Stick type and small vacuum cleaners, variants of light weight vacuum cleaners are cordless and run on batteries.
Some prominent vacuum cleaner features are explained below.
Add-on tools
The basic attachments that come with most vacuum cleaners include a narrow crevice cleaning tool, brushes for dusting, upholstery cleaning along with an attachment reach to increase the length of the nozzle. Some even come with a power suction tool for more stubbornly fixed dirt.
Bag and bagless cleaners
With bag type cleaners, all the dirt is deposited into a holding bag, which needs to be removed and cleaned once the indicator points towards Full. Conversely, bagless canister vacuum cleaners employ a dustbin and some of the best bagless vacuum cleaners actually have filters to trap dust. Popularly known as HEPA filter vacuum cleaners, their filter pads need to be cleaned periodically to maintain efficacy.
Bare Floor and Brush Agitator Option
In certain appliances such as hardwood floor vacuum cleaners, there is an extra setting that allows for cleaning un-carpeted floors such as hardwood and vinyl. Another option, the brush agitator, looks like a roller with bristles attached to the bottom of the cleaner. When switched on, it picks up dirt and grit and throws it in the path of the air suction.
Retractable cord
The availability of a retractable cord is a necessity as it eliminates the need for switching off and switching on the appliance repeatedly when connecting to power sockets in different rooms. In fact, most of the refurbished vacuum cleaners provide this option.
Take into account the floor space, type of floor material (carpeted, bare floor etc), as well as the occupants in the house, children and animals for instance, before buying a vacuum cleaner.
Other appliance-oriented aspects will include length of the cord and hose, weight of the cleaner and over all energy rating of the device.
As long as you are clear on the features and have factored in the extra details, you are sure to make the right choice with the purchase of the vacuum cleaner.
