MOTOROLA Q: The Facts

2011-05-04

In this article we will take a close look at the Motorola Q smart phone and examine its technical features and uses. Motorola Q smartphones are comparable to the popular Blackberry smart phone.

Sprint and Verizon Networks releases
The Motorola (Moto) Q windows mobile has been available since 2006. Originally released on Sprint, the device was later followed the device with the “Motorola Q 9h” on Verizon. The Q9c was the Verizon Motorola q version.

Windows 6
All Q9 models ran on Windows 6 which is particularly useful for sending emails with the in built QWERTY keyboard. The Motorola Q black’s extended keyboard and physical similarity to the Blackberry gave it the nickname “RAZRberry”. Windows 6 is designed to be visually similar to Windows Vista which was released at the same time.

Dimensions
The phone is relatively thin at 66mm and this space houses not only a QWERTY keyboard but also a picture and video camera. Pictures taken with the camera can be viewed on the Motorola Q’s 2.4″ TFT screen.

Screen
This screen has a relatively low resolution compared to modern smart phones at only 320 x 240 pixels. Whilst this is acceptable for the phones multimedia messaging features it is inadequate for video and high quality photo browsing. This said, the phone technically can play videos and can do so via a mobile version of windows media player.

Connecting ports
The phone can be sync-ed via bluetooth or the micro USB port which is located in the side of the device. The Motorola Q charger also plugs into this port which powers the 1170mAh battery giving up to 330 minutes talk time.

Uses
The Motorola Q can be used to browse the internet via mobile Opera or Internet Explorer but users will find this experience frustrating after extended use. The full keyboard is however useful for composing and sending emails and text messages.

Accessories and power
There are a wide range of motorola q accessories including cases and even a moto q extended battery which can give stand by times of over 720 hours.

Buying tips
This device can now be picked up cheaply on internet auction sites and whilst it does not compare to modern mobile phones it does allow users a wide range of connectivity options and its attractive RAZR styling will mean that it is still a popular choice for users on a budget for many years to come.
