It is tradition in every campaign for each side to denounce the other as having run the sleaziest race in modern political history. And certainly it seems like every day brings with it a new attack ad deemed "the worst one yet." While historians are generally skittish when it comes to such claims -- pointing out that past years witnessed some serious mudslinging of their own -- it is hard to dismiss...

No, Obama is not John Kerry: Here's the McCain response: "Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula and thinks regular people 'cling' to guns and religion in the face of economic hardship really want to have a...

Don't know where this is airing yet... but talk about a lightning fast turnaround for the Obama ad team. The tag line: "Here's one house that America can't afford to let John McCain move in to."

But we shouldn't judge him too harshly. A 72-year old A man who wears $520 Italian loafers, thinks the baseline for rich is making $5,000,000 a year and whose wife is worth $100M really can't be bothered with such trifling details.

Only non-elitists have trouble keeping track of all their multi-million dollar houses. Politico: (audio available here) Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said in an interview Wednesday that he was uncertain how many houses he and his wife, Cindy, own. “I think — I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain told Politico in Las Cruces, N.M. One would think, having just unvelied Joe Biden and on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama would be having a big week on YouTube. And he is. But so is John McCain. The two campaigns are neck-and-neck in YouTube views as this chart from Tubemogul (embedded below) shows. And while the Obama campaign is back to producing documentary-style YouTube videos at a blistering pace--as...

Good . And the ad nicely avoids the issue of whether McCain is losing his cognitive abilities because of his advanced age (he's going to be 72 in a week). Rather, the ad simply notes that Americans are suffering economically and John McCain, and his seven houses, thinks everything is going swell. UPDATE: The McCain campaign just issued a response that is so all over the place, it's worthy of a Democrat....

You could imagine Barack Obama lying awake last night, frustrated by his dwindling momentum and tightening poll numbers , the worst rut his campaign has been in so far, just wishing, praying that John McCain would commit some horrendous, game-changing gaffe. And then he probably woke up this morning, did a thousand push-ups as usual, made sweet love to Michelle, and was drinking a glass of raw eggs...

I knew the house remark by McCain would make it into a commercial, but sweet jeebus that was fast: Direct hit. I did not even hear of McCain’s comment until 7 am this morning, and they already have a commercial up and plan to air it nationally. At any rate, you know what to do. [...]

I think it's more than 7, but I guess it depends on how you count. I suppose it'll be okay if Factcheck or similar calls Obama's ad false like this: The Obama campaign falsely claimed that John McCain owns 7 homes. In fact, he owns 12.

John McCain may regret the day he said he could not remember how many homes he owns. The number is seven. Obama's team--tarred with the rich celebrity tag by McCain, and thrown off stride by this--was given a gift by...

CHICAGO - Today, the Obama campaign released a new 30-second TV ad, Seven, discussing just how out of touch John McCain is with the struggles of everyday people. The ad highlight's John McCain's desire to just offer more of the same economic policies we've gotten from President Bush, as just yesterday he declared that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" and lost track of how many houses he...

Have you had the feeling that the Obama campaign has seemed troubled of late? They’re on the ropes, slipping in the polls? Maybe they could use a little spark to help shake up the race? Based on the last few hours, I think they got one. We talked earlier about a reporter from the Politico asking John [...]
