I won't argue plagiarism in the music business. It happens & has been happening for a century or more (how many versions of Stagger Lee are there?) The real crime is how these original artists were treated. Don' talk about royalites not received now. Most NEVER received any royalties. $5 or $10 or $20 (maybe!) to record a song and then the music company owned the rights and the artist never saw another...

Saw the Maysles Bros. new Rolling Stones flick Get Yer Ya-Yas Out the other day -- my review will be up over at Box Office momentarily I think -- and one of the best scenes is Mick and Keith doing an unplugged version of "You Gotta Move." Mick, at his most transparently disingenuous, prefaces it by saying "We've been trying to find out who wrote it, but we don't know." Actually, it's by Mississippi...
