There has been a predictably outraged response to the anti-Israel carol service held at St James's church in Piccadilly the other day, where veteran peace campaigner and former Roman Catholic priest Bruce Kent and the Liberal Democrat Baroness Tonge, who has expressed sympathy with Palestinian suicide bombers, sang "Once in Royal David's cit...

So now we have chapter and verse on Baroness Tonge's account of her departure from her trusteeship of Christian Aid. She was indeed a victim of the vast Israel Lobby conspiracy, sacked because the charity was blackmailed by the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Read it all here . Comment is more or less superfluous, but I do have a couple of questions. If the Board of Deputies wields such immense...

Having described Baroness Tonge as a former trustee of Christian Aid, it's only fair to add that her tenure of the post was brief. Appointed in April 2006, she stepped down at the charity's AGM in November of the same year. Was she pushed? Of course. But by whom? Not, for sure, by Christian Aid's own mandarins - not, at least, unless someone else was leaning on them. Instead of disowning her appalling...

The list of speakers at IslamExpo last month reads like this blog's Most Wanted list. Comrades Steele and Milne of al-Grauniad were there, arm in arm with Gorgeous George, as was their colleague Maddy of the Sorrows . Tariq Ramadan , Rowan Williams' favourite Muslim intellectual, was there, and, talking of the Archbishop, Sarah Joseph was there. Ilan Pappé was there, assuredly with the blessing of...

My JC column today refers to IslamExpo, which took place a fortnight ago. One of the speakers was Baroness Tonge, the LibDem peer whose empathy for suicide bombers and claims that the Board of Deputies of British Jews "take vindictive actions against people who oppose and criticise the lobby" are now infamous. For some reason her words were not reported. This post is aimed at changing that. Although...

Baroness Tonge gained notoreity after that if she was a Palestinian, she would consider becoming a suicide bomber. Inspite of the power and influence of the “pro-Israeli lobby” Baroness Tonge was subsequently made a Lib Dem peer , and in a meeting in September 2006 said the following : “The pro-Israeli Lobby has got its grips on the Western World,” she said. After a short pause she went on to explain...

Re my post below , I don't think I've told this story before. A few months after Baroness Tonge had been sacked as a front-bencher by Charles Kennedy for her remarks about Palestinian murderers, I was on a radio programme. The Baroness was one of the other particpants. I was looking forward to the programme, as I wanted to take her to task for her views. Before the programme there was a dinner for...

Baroness Tonge of JewsRunTheWorld is at it again. She has already offered her Protocols of the Elders of Zion-like view that: The pro-Israeli lobby has got its grips on the Western world, its financial grips. I think they have probably got a certain grip on our party. Last night in the Lords she offered this further thought: I am beginning to understand the power of the Israel lobby, active here as...

It is not at all uncommon these days to come across the opinion that the Iraq war was illegal. This opinion is especially doing the rounds now, as the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the war approaches. Baroness Tonge...
