The Independent have asked coprophagous Mark Oaten 49, to consider the problems facing Max Mosley. He has a wonderfully cheeky line.. It's frustrating, to say the least, and, while I have thicker skin these days, it isn't easy to turn the other cheek.

Sorry about this post - if you have a sensitive disposition, it's probably best to look away now. There are two political comment pieces in the Independent today which, taken together, conjur up the most appalling image. Mark Oaten: I know what Max Mosley has been going through. Michael Brown: A Brown exit is Cameron's biggest worry. First make the connection...

The moment The News of the World broke the Mosley story, it brought back memories of my own experiences. It's probably pretty obvious that I've been following the case closely, but I never thought he would succeed. The verdict we got on Thursday really was, in my view, a landmark ruling with far-reaching ramifications.

As revealed by Mark Oaten over at the Indy’s Open House blog: We haven’t always been the best of friends: he once threatened to punch my nose in, and I’ve described him as disgusting. The reason: When I came close to wobbling on 90 days he held firm. (That’s also when he informed me that if I did [...]

And so another week at Bonkers Hall draws to a close. Sunday To St Asquith’s for Divine Service. At my suggestion, the Revd Hughes leads us in prayers for the health of the Duke of Rutland and his ministers, for the return to robust health of Freddie Flintoff, and for Mark Oaten to remain as MP for Winchester until the next general election. Saturday: With Clegg in Afghanistan Friday: Feeding Ruttie...

There is a telling interview with Mark Oaten on Iain Dale's new blog http://www.totalpolitics.com/politico.php We in Winchester have been hearing rumours for some time that he's preparing to step down and is hoping for a job in the States. Here are a couple of the questions and answers: Q: Which five words would your friends use about you? A: Shy, distant Q: What's your favourite view in the world?...

Former Lib Dem home affairs spokesman Mark Oaten writes in today’s Guardian about the ever-present question: when does ‘scandal’ in an individual’s private life prevent them from undertaking public duties? Describing privacy as “a fluid concept”, Mark suggests we can apply a simple three-point test. 1) Has the person broken the law? If this has happened, [...]

Is Mark Oaten trying to do a Ronaldo? One wouldn't normally compare the Lib Dem MP for Winchester with the world's greatest footballer. OK, they've both been embarrassed by the British tabloids over their private lives, but one would hardly...

The Daily Mash has posted about the government’s plan to lose any remaining Labour voters It’s funny because it could be true - well, up until the kicking people in the groin part, anyway. Jonathan Calder publicises Mark Oaten’s ill-spelled and emotional refutal of the Political betting.com article about his future. Brad Hicks has an in depth [...]

I note that Political Betting has a further update on the Oaten story - in an interview with the Portsmouth News he does seem to be suggesting he will go early. I do appreciate his heartfelt plea to be forgiven. Actually it is not for us to forgive him, it is his wife and she has so that is good enough for me. All I am concerned about is the timing of any early departure and I trust he will be taking...

Thanks to Jonathan Calder for posting a comment left by Mark Oaten on Political Betting. I found the comment to be a searingly honest and open 'plea from the heart' ("yes I screwed up") and I am most grateful to Mark Oaten for leaving it. He ends with this: i have kept martin tod, chris rennard, nick clegg and the tory candidate steve brine in the picture about all of this and done my best to

Mark Oaten has left a comment on politicalbetting.com explaining his future plans. I am not sure it tells us much about the chances of his resigning from Parliament before the next general election, but it does come straight from the horse's mouth. Mark writes: I have never responded to blog sites before but i came accross this today- imagine what it is like to have 242 messages all about what you...

Mike Smithson has an interesting piece on Political Betting today wondering aloud whether Winchester could be our Waterloo. His advice to Nick Clegg is to give Mark Oaten whatever he wants to stay until the next election.
