It says that "A senior politician has sparked a parliamentary row by saying the minimum wage should be lower in Liverpool than London. Liberal Democrat business and enterprise spokesman Lorely Burt MP said the amount has "tremendously" less purchasing power in the capital than in Merseyside. Mrs Burt, MP for Solihull in the...

Congratulations to Lorely Burt on being elected chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary party. Reproducing the party press release, Lib Dem Voice reports that she defeated Andrew George and John Thurso to win the post. The press release does not reproduce the voting figures. One bonus for Lorely is that the press will consistently call her "the chair of the Liberal Democrats" even though there...

No, not that election contest: the one to decide who will chair the Parliamentary Party, a post from which Paul Holmes stood down on his appointment to the Lib Dem shadow cabinet. Hearty congratulations to Lorely; commiserations to the runners up, Andrew George and John Thurso. Here’s the full party press release:

Last night Adi Teladia and I went to Solihull and met with most of the members of the Meriden Liberal Democrats Selection Committee to train them. Whilst the Liberal Democrats in Solihull borough have already selected Lorely Burt to re-stand in Solihull constituency they have not yet selected anyone for Meriden and the training was one of the first steps, I expect to see an advert soon.
