Good stuff in the Guardian : From Diane Abbott and Frank Dobson on the left to David Davis and Dominic Grieve on the right, democratic politicians came together to say "enough is enough". Let the misnamed, misguided "war on terror" that replaced law and ethics with permanent exceptionalism be over. Let a new anti-terror effort begin, based on the values that bind our society together and distinguish...

If you thought Labour had a monopoly on own goals think again. The Shadow Health Secretary has managed to infuriate just about everyone, including his own supporters, after he made these comments earlier today on Sky News: "We've got to have a more effective process for helping people make decisions and taking responsibilities. If they don't take responsibilities for their own help, the demands

The Telegraph today reports that 69% of the public supports extending detention without charge to 42 days, and both Baroness Park and Ann Widdecomb have indicated their support for the legislation. I can confidently predict that the Government will win the 42 days vote today. Why do I say this? Simply because I have just heard [...]

Hmmm. Frank Dobson is against 42 days. (He was on the Today programme mouthing off). I guess that points to it being a sensible, sagacious, important measure. And now this : The government is expected to offer a last-minute compensation deal to help push the 42-day detention plan through. Under this, any suspect held for more than 28 days and later not charged could receive £3,000 for each extra day...

Lots of activity over the weekend, not least by BNP trolls on this and other blogs. While I have no doubt that some libertarians support the Ham and High's line, the BNP's 'cyberactivists' have been at work on many sites. On our side, activists have contacted Labour MPs Jon Cruddas, Frank Dobson, Diane Abbott, Glenda Jackson, and George Galloway from Respect as well Labour Groups across north London....

Frank Dobson MP has come to the rescue of Camden pupils with his lobbying of government, see here - really showing how poor this Tory/Lib Dem council has been in providing for kids in this area of need. The £25.5 million project to restore the Victorian baths, with an £8 million learners’ pool, is double the cost of the Labour scheme, and is perhaps the real reason why a school site can't be found....

Report from the Maiden Lane meeting: Frank Dobson MP spoke on the proposed redevelopment at a meeting chaired by local tenant Kate Purcell, and attended by about 70 residents. Reports says that local Lib Dem councillor Ben Rawlings got himself into a tangle, when he promised an open consultation but no extra money without some demolition. This is seen as a contradiction by residents. There was also...

On Thursday I went to a Searchlight meeting at the House of Commons, held on “Beating the BNP in London”. Frank Dobson MP chaired, speakers included Jon Cruddas MP, Megan Dobney (SETUC) and Nick Lowles (Searchlight). As you would expect there was a good attendance and range of people present. Afterwards I went to a West Ham Labour Party Campaign meeting, where we had invited our “City & East” London...
