I am a bit surprised, but Chris Bryant has walked (minced') this one with 22% of the vote, followed closely by Nadine Dorries (19%) and Theresa May (17%). The stragglers were Katy Clark (11%), Diane Abbott (9%), Oiky Osborne (8%), Hague (5%), Ed Bollocks (3%), and Roberta Blackman-Woods and Hillary Benn on 1% each. I'm off for a three-way with Nadine and Theresa. Bareback!

... I'd just like to point out that he is gay. Either I have a lot of pooves hang out here, or there are a lot of misguided women. (And if it's misguided women, I'd like to point out that I wear the same kind of skiddies, if that helps!)

Not many writers can claim to have produced material for both the comedian Ronnie Barker and Conservative Prime Minister Edward Heath, but Chris Bryant was a man of many talents, working as a writer, politician and lawyer. His multiple jobs did cause occasional problems, and there was some controversy in Canada in the early 1960s when it came out that the Attorney-General’s assistant was moonlighting...

What's going on between Harriet and her protégé, Chris Bryant? One old stager told me that no secretary of state likes it when their assistant or under-minister makes a hit. Oh, they laugh along in public, but inside they die a little every time it happens.

Simon Hoggart has a highly amusing sketch today, where he writes about Chris Bryant's performance, deputising for Harriet Harman at Business Questions yesterday. Until last month Mr Bryant, Labour MP for Rhondda, was something of a parliamentary joke. A former vicar, he was best known for posing in his knickers on a gay website. Then he was made deputy leader of the house, which makes him Harriet...

John Hemming (Birmingham, Yardley) (LD): I congratulate the Deputy Leader of the House on the skill with which he is defending the indefensible on issues such as the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.On Monday I raised the issue of oil with the Prime Minister, at columns 33 to 34 of Hansard, and he said that we needed a constantly increasing supply. I find that rather strange, because if we are...

A star is born or, at least, a starling. I speak of Chris Bryant, a man thought previously to be a bit of a political car crash. This is the MP, a former vicar no less, best known for posting a picture of himself in his underpants on the Gaydar website. I thought of that (though obviously not for long) when I saw him at the dispatch box. It seemed a bit of a miracle.
