Telegraph [UK]: Ann Cryer said politicians in areas with high Muslim populations, many of which are Labour heartlands, should be at the forefront of the campaign to stop young couples being made to wed against their will by their families. But she claimed that some politicians are afraid to speak out on the issue in case they alienate Muslim voters. The forced marriage unit at the Foreign Office deals...

Ann Cryer (left) the Labour MP for Keighley has announced her intention to retire at the next General Election. She was a revelation when she came to Parliament, but this came as big surprise to me. At one time Bob Cryer had been an MEP for the Sheffield seat which also covered sections of North Derbyshire where I live. This is how I first met her. Bob was a very forceful character who when we were...

the Labour MP for Keighley has announced that she is standing down. She is a person of honour and integrity and has had some s**t in her constituency for the principled positions she has taken on forced marriages and "honour killings". I didn't know her late husband Bob Cryer, but I do know that he too became a little unpopular in some parts of his constituency when he refused to take part in demonstrations...

The BBC reports that Ann Cryer, MP in the neighbouring constituency of Keighley, is standing down. Sad news that yet another member of the Campaign Group is to go - but possibly an opportunity for a left woman if it's AWS....... BTW activists in Keighley CLP persuaded Ann Cryer to nominate John McDonnell for Leader - so they have my best wishes in choosing a successor. I might even put a CV in myself........

Conservative Home reports that veteran Labour MP, Ann Cryer, is standing down at the next general election. The Conservative PPC for Keighley is Kris Hopkins. I use the word "Conservative" advisedly, for on his website I come across this picture of him: That's right. A Tory PPC is happy to pose - and to boast on his website about posing with - Rev Jesse Jackson - adulterer, racist and hypocrite. Jackson...

But it won't be Keighley, even though Ann Cryer has just announced that she's standing down at the next election. With a majority of just 4,852 and the Tories breathing down Labour's necks I wouldn't fancy Ann's chances of holding Keighley let alone Jacqui Smith's. However, there's a whisper that all is not lost for the worst Labour Home Secretary since the last Labour Home Secretary. According

The hard left Socialist Campaign Group of MPs has seen two more of its 22 current members (John Austin, and yesterday Ann Cryer) announce their retirement at the next General Election. In percentage terms this means 50% of the Campaign Group are leaving parliament through retirement or deselection, compared to just 8.5% of the rest of the PLP. Diane Abbott MP John Austin MP - retiring Michael Clapham...
