The Telegraph reports this morning that the Tories are feeling confident about victory at the next election even though it is still a year or two away - if a week is a long time in politics what does that make two years? Oliver Letwin, the Tory policy chief, and Francis Maude, the shadow Cabinet Office minister, will lead a discussion about the work the party is doing to prepare for Government. The...

Aargh! I was rather tickled to learn that staff at 10 Downing Street now have a “reflection room”, I wonder if it’s a bit like the Hall of Mirrors in the Ocean Beach Amusement Park in South Shields? Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude said: “Have reflection rooms been set up in Downing Street to help the [...]

According to Snowflake 5’s analysis of the wealth of the Tory shadow cabinet (19 out of 29 being millionaires) Francis Maude is worth £3 million. It shows the scale of the challenge I have standing in Horsham because according to some rough calculations I have done that makes him worth about £3 million more than [...]

Yesterday, the Financial Times reported that David Cameron is beginning to prepare his party for victory in 2010: Mr Cameron has approved a 45-minute session on “preparing for government” to start the crucial final day of his party’s conference in Birmingham. Oliver Letwin and Francis Maude, shadow cabinet members charged with overseeing the transition to Downing Street, will lead the platform session,...

Francis Maude has written a MY WEEK diary in the Sunday Times , telling of his week teaching English in Rwanda. He's out there with Andrew Mitchell and his group of 100 Tory activists, candidates and MPs. It brought back a lot of memories for me of my trip there last year. Andrew asked me to go with them again this time, and, believe me, I was tempted. It was one of the most memorable weeks of my life....

Credit where credit is due, the official Conservative Party reaction to the Ray Lewis affair appears to be rather more measured and sensible than that of some of the party’s online cheerleaders: Former minister Francis Maude will chair talks with senior party officials and one of Boris Johnson’s right hand men to learn lessons from the [...]

Now this looks good . Apparently this week David Davis, in his big push, will be receiving visits from William Hague, Francis Maude, Liam Fox and Dominic Grieve... oh, and that fat bloke in the crumpled white suit. Still to vist, I hear, during this campaign, are high profile Shadow Cabinet Members Andrew Lansley, David Willetts, Eric Pickles, Theresa May, Alan Duncan, Francis Maude, David Mundell,...

At Questions for the Cabinet Office the other day , Tory Francis Maude tried to question the Government's support for co-operative schools, even quoting the Co-operative Party's manifesto to Ed Miliband. Mr. Francis Maude (Horsham) (Con): Does the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster agree with the party manifesto at the previous election that stated: "Public ownership does not have to mean top down...

After, as predicted, a very bust day at work, I have just discovered this on ConservativeHome which notes that Francis Maude went after Labour's Union funding yesterday in the Commons saying,Last year, we came close to an overall comprehensive agreement that could genuinely have started to repair the public’s trust in politics, and I say to the Justice Secretary that we can still achieve this.

While going through TheyWorkForYou for the previous post, I couldn't help but notice this spectacularly asinine question from Francis Maude: Francis Maude (Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office & Shadow Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Cabinet Office; Horsham, Conservative) To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many copies of the Morning Star (a) the Cabinet Office and (b) 10 Downing...
