Not sure if they got a cup of tea with wee Gordon, but a delegation from HMRC Crewe travelled to London on Tuesday to hand over a petition in their bid to keep the Oak Street tax office open. Local MP Edward Timpson was on hand as the group visited Downing Street, and he has pledged to continue the fight with new Financial Secretary Stephen Timms. As with the good folk at Royal Mail, Focus and elsewhere,...

Thought that Edward Timpson having to address Royal Mail workers on the pavement was a tad bizarre. Apparently, mail bosses were not keen on him speaking with employees on PO property. Is this a bit OTT? Should the local MP be allowed into any office/factory with an appointment, or should business managers be allowed to exclude the MP? Good to see him still making the effort to communicate with the...

The will it/won't it shut down saga at Weston Road Royal Mail office is getting fascinating. There have been meetings, petitions and now a cross-party group of local councillors has met with union officials representing workers at the Crewe depot. They were joined by local MP Edward Timpson, and the Chief Executive of the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, and together demonstrated their support for...

With the local Labour group currently working on a short list for their parliamentary candidate to take on Edward Timpson MP at the next general election we thought we'd throw on a few casual pics of some of the ( known ) candidates. Here's David Williams snapped during the May by-election chatting to the fella promoting the Common Good . Some of you might remember the gentleman cycling around town...

Here’s a theme that always deserves a mention – volunteering. Locally, there is the CNVA ( Crewe & Nantwich Voluntary Action ) based on Gatefield Street ( the end near to the Limelight ). They had an open day the other week that was formerly opened by Edward Timpson MP, plus the CNBC Mayor and Mayoress. In fact, the mayor is also the president of the organisation that acts as an umbrella for 160 volunteer...

At first there were three, then a couple of late riders entered the race to be the Labour candidate who will take on Edward Timpson at the next general election. Tamsin Dunwoody ( snapped on Nanny Road during the by-election campaign back in May ) couldn't stop the Conservatives but maybe one of the new crowd will be a little more successful? However, Labour could certainly do with avoiding a load...

On Sunday morning at 11am there is a meeting at the Alexandra Stadium to launch a campaign to save 600 postal jobs in Crewe. Local MP Edward Timpson will be there along with union bosses, workers and council leader John Hammond. But will they achieve anything? The preferred option to shut sites at Crewe and Liverpool serves the best interests of the North West region - apparently. However, the likes...

A couple of weeks back I met up with Edward Timpson, new MP for Crewe and Nantwich (Cheshire) for a feature for the Big Issue in the North. Much was made during the by-election campaign earlier this year about Timpson's privileged roots - Labour Party activists waged a toe-curling battle against him clad in top hats and tails. It backfired spectacularly and the Tory overturned a huge Labour

Never nice to see a former colleague fall on hard times - and I've almost forgotten about the nauseating strategy she adopted in Crewe and Nantwich earlier this year, when she and her party ran a reptilian campaign against Edward Timpson, who won the seat for the Conservatives. But it was a sad little piece in Mandrake's column in the weekend Telegraph concerning former AM, Tamsin Dunwoody. Tamsin...

Slowly but surely there has been progress at the bus station. It's obvious that any rebuild over by the Phoenix Leisure Park is two, maybe three years away. So fair play to Arriva, Modus, local councillors and MP Edward Timpson who have all pushed to get things improved. The result isn't spectacular but the pillars, boarding and rails have all been painted, the unsightly cage/fencing has been boarded...

If you thought that the local political scene would quieten down now that the by-election and Cheshire East stuff has passed, well, your wrong. The local Labour Party has started the process to select a new candidate to fight Edward Timpson for the Crewe & Nantwich seat at the next general election. David Williams ( pictured ) has decided to throw his hat into the ring. “I am committed to winning back...

As detailed t'other week here on the blog, from September 2008 local MP Edward Timpson will be holding his regular surgeries at the constituency office at 30 Victoria Street, Crewe ( that was the campaign office during the recent by-election ). It's close to the bus station, opposite Chatwin's cafe and bakery, and the nearest car park is by ASDA. The new fella in the local hotseat continues to offer...

Local MP Edward Timpson was down in London last week presenting a petition against the downgrading and disbanding of the local First Responder service. He was joined by campaigners Cllr Bill McGinnis and Ann Ostredge, Rachael Broadhurst ( who recently lost her husband after First Responders were not allowed to attend a road traffic accident ) and a Cheshire First Responder. . Edward Timpson said: "I...

Crewe and Nantwich's new MP, Edward Timpson, is already endearing himself to the Tory whips. No sooner had made his maiden speech on the Children and Young Persons Bill, than he agreed to an "invitation" to sit on the bill's standing committee. "He certainly gets ten out of ten for enthusiasm," whispers my source.
