Otterly Wonderful

Friday 13th turned out pretty lucky for me as I took the opportunity for a quick look round Bosherston before the next deluge hits. A walk from the 8 Arch Bridge up to the Grassy Bridge produced a pair of Goosander but little else of note. Back at the 8 Arch Bridge the Mother and 2 Cubs appeared and swam around between the bridge and the reedbed for 10 mins or so. The mother then swam over to the side...

The other sandstones

With ref to the recent discussion on the Altar Stone, I just recalled that there are 2 (at least) other sandstone monoliths in the bluestone circle at Stonehenge -- numbered 40g and 42c. They are conveniently forgotten about, because they are just represented as stumps, buried beneath the turf and now no longer visible. Where have they come from? Well, four sandstone fragments (that may or may not...

Total For Saturday

With a late update of 4 birds in total at Stackpole Centre (from Sue Lamb) and after some very complex arithmetical calculations I make that 59 Black Redstarts reported to the blog for Pembrokeshire yesterday. Wonder what they will do with this gale blowing?

Beautiful Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire, one of Britain's best beaches

Barafundle Bay, which is under the care of the National Trust and listed as part of the Stackpole Estate, has one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain. It is my favourite beach in Wales. The golden sands and dunes can be accessed by the Pembrokeshire Coastal path and it is not easily reached. It is unspoilt and right away from the madding crowd, car parks, caravans, holiday homes, buildings, roads...

Back from Manorbier

Thankfully we arrived home this afternoon. Here are some pictures of our time in Pembrokeshire . Yesterday was a bit wet but we filled the time with playing 'Game of Life' in the morning. Then the small boys and I went to the pool while the bigs did some maths. The pool was great fun, not least because there was no life-guard! They spent a lot of energy trying different ways to jump in. Pads is struggling...

Manorbier

Sorry not to update you recently but we’ve been on holiday in Manorbier. With the postal strikes, it’s a bit of a disincentive to attempt post-cards so I hope this message will suffice. Thanks to our good health we’ve been pretty active. Thanks also to Christian Lewis Trust who not only provided the caravan free for the week but also six tickets for the local theme park, Oakwood....

That’s a hardass

A drug dealer who refused to go to the toilet for 16 days to avoid producing the evidence that would convict him has been jailed for 52 months. Damien Ankrah, 28, placed the drugs in condoms and swallowed them to avoid detection, Swansea Crown Court heard. The judge heard that after police in Pembrokeshire arrested him during a drugs operation, he refused to eat for days to avoid going to the toilet....
