Take a voyage north to the breathtaking, rugged scenery of Sutherland in the far north-west of Scotland. This is Mackay country, and the numerous cairns, brochs and ruined settlements in the area are testament to a long and turbulent history. Norsemen would steer their longships around Cape Wrath on the way to Ireland, and sometimes came ashore in Durness. And it was the Vikings who gave the county...

There must be thousands of accommodation properties in Scotland, judging from the many accommodation websites out there. And I'm sure there are perhaps hundreds of websites that offer links to (some or most) of these accommodations. That however was no reason for me not to start a new website with links to most of the Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, Self Catering Cottages, Guest Houses and Campsites in...

Each year, we go up to Scotland for a quick razz around on the motorbikes. Part of our route is to Cape Wrath, over Laxford Bridge. Just over a month ago, that bridge suffered major structural damage when an Army transporter fell off it , leaving those who live nearby, deliver goods, go to school etc via that bridge were faced with a 60-100 mile detour. And what, you may ask, has that to do with broadband?...

During my holiday last week (which now seems a dim memory -sigh) I visited Cape Wrath . Apparently the name of the area is derived from the Norse word for "turning point" as it was the place where Norse seafarers would turn their boats to head for home. We travelled over the Kyle of Durness on the "ferry" - which as you can see in this picture is a *very* wee boat. Yes it's the...

Derek and John's Epic Caper.... (Free subscription) | 01/08/2009

The former members of the elite cycling club- Team Turtle- returned for a re-union cycle. They have not cycled together since the monstrous Cape Wrath Epic. The Duracell and The Doc both back for a team tour to Stirling and the famous Corrieri's Cafe. There may not have been much wrath,...

This is Mackay country, and the numerous cairns, brochs and ruined settlements in the area are testament to a long and turbulent history. Norsemen would steer their longships around Cape Wrath on the way to Ireland, and sometimes...
