As many of you know, one of the things I love to collect is postcards - both vintage postcards and also modern ones. I was therefore delighted to be asked to participate in the latest Festival of Postcards which is organised by the Canadian genealogists and postcard collector, Evelyn Yvonne Theriault . A Festival of Postcards is a Blog Carnival - a gathering together of blog posts on a common subject...

Passengers on domestic flights to Scotland face having to show their passports to police when they land under terrorism laws, The Daily Telegraph can disclose. Despite already proving their identity to airline operators before boarding, passengers on internal flights will still face routine checks by police when they disembark. The move emerged after five Tory front bench MPs, including Chris Grayling,...

Today's date - the ninth day of the ninth month in the ninth year of the century - has inspired and frightened various people in equal measures. In Chinese numerology the number 9 represents 'long life', so its triple appearance on the calendar has led a large amount of couples in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore to get married on this lucky day. In Britain and the USA , where 999 is the...

Ladies and Gentlemen we are in Scotland - in Gretna Green. Day 8 of the ride was remarkably downhill, yes there were a few killer hills but the majority was fairly flat! The biggest thing I had to struggle with was the wind. There were some serious cross winds and head winds to battle against but even so I made good time and am happy there's only 80 miles of this adventure left. For the Scottish contingent...

The scenery was so beautiful .I loved the place so much.In the evening the sunset was so spectacular a lovely bluey orange and reddish hue, green land and shrubbery.Quite possibly one of the most beautiful...

Presenting Mr & Mrs Mcguiness. Last weekend we attended our friends wedding held in Gretna Green . Gretna's famous runaway marriages began in 1753 when an Act of Parliament, Lord Hardwicke's Marriage Act, was passed in England, which stated that if both parties to a marriage were not at least 21 years old, then consent to the marriage had to be given by the parents. This Act did not apply in Scotland,,...

Since we got engaged in March 2008 we have been trying to decide WHERE we would like to get married. Several months ago we finally picked Gretna Green Scotland. We chose Gretna Green for it's history and it's close proximity to places we both wanted to visit. Carlisle is one of the northernmost cities in England, but it was still an odd feeling to be stood at a bus stop and see services like the number 75 to Gretna Green and the 79 to Dumfries, over the border in Scotland. Our own bus was heading east, away from the barbarian territory and along the Hadrians Wall, on the aptly-named AD122 service. But first we had a quick look around this small city, which...
