Two teenagers who sank up to their waists in mud in the sea in Brean, Somerset, have been saved from the incoming tide by coastguards. The pair had gone out to wash their feet in the sea when they suddenly found themselves being swallowed up by the thick mudflats.

Brean Down A seal is being cared for in a wildlife centre after it was found on a beach far from home. A passer-by found the seal, nicknamed Sandy, on the beach at Brean Down, Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on Thursday. It is not known where it the seal came from but common seals are not native to the South West coast. They are usually found on the Welsh coast or off Ireland.
