when the klondikers came to Weymouth

In October 1996, Weymouth Bay was home to a fleet of ramshackle Russian factory ships, and Weymouth harbour was crowded with fishing boats, a large proportion of which came from the Scottish east coast. The fishing boats offloaded their catch onto the factory ships. The Scottish trawlermen introduced Irn Bru to various Weymouth bars, not least of which being The Moorings, where we ferry people used...

And I suspect you have all be reading TerrasBlog for too long not to understand how those on the fringes of Weymouth FC operate. Maybe the Dorset...

On Dorset FACTS Just when I thought that the whole FACTS thing had run its course, my local rag draws my attention to the forthcoming Olympic Games and its need for FACT-y goodness. On restless spirits

On restless spirits Our local gang of paranormal investigators, meddling with dark, dark forces of which they know nothing have hit the local press with their plans for a Hallowe'en ghostbusting extravaganza. This, essentially, involves visiting a number of locations in the South Dorest area and poking them with their best ghost-poking sticks until something dreadful happens, for eg: the Old Dark Ones...

Amazing gift of ancient signature to Old Town Hall

Great news The Chapelhay Community Partnership (CCP), which has taken over the lease of the Old Town Hall and plans to turn it into a heritage and community centre, has revealed how a hand has reached down through history to support the project. At the centre of the group’s vision for the hall is an exhibition dedicated to the English Civil War, particularly the little-known but important battle...

Big bad bug

Amongst the moths on Saturday night at Dungeness, we also took c10 of these .. Western Conifer Seed Bug I was pleased to see it in one repsect (interesting looking species, still a bit rare, appears to be getting here through immigration) but it was also a bad sign (non-European adventive species, destructive pest, illegal to knowingly release). I've therefore considered it as both a mothing mate and...

The Wedding Looms

Been busy here at Walkden central! Mary's slightly more relaxed now as she's been out and bought a dress, then she came home and made me buy her another one on the internet so she's got two! We've also got pretty much everything booked and sorted for the day too so just got to sit back and let it all happen around me. Work is steady but a little slower than usual, fine with me, loads of other stuff...
