Lyle Watt: working on new CD

I caught up with Lyle Watt online and asked him about projects, he indicated that he is working on a 4 or 5 track EP, one track is completed, and hoping to be released in 2010. Lyle has been working with his mate Neal Clark from Cornwall. Here's a sample of the top rock on offer. Lyle Watt says: At last! An original track! This one's called "Ages" because it took me absolutely ages to do....

The Ark - Living In Comfort

I'm aware I've been a bit slack at posting in the last few months. Life gets in the way of these things from time to time.... I doubt I'll be posting anywhere near as much as I used to, but will try and drop up some bits on a (slightly) more regular basis. If anybody wants to contribute any records to the blog feel free to drop me a line. I've been somewhat immersed in music of Cornwall of late, partly...

It seems like ages since I did...

It seems like ages since I did my last blog and so much has happened since. Suicide bombs somewhere or other, an MP found to be less than scrupulous and a banker getting a bonus larger than his ego. Plus ca change. What a wonderful week we had in Cornwall, weather wise that is. We did all the usual things, mackerel fishing (2x fish @ £10 per person x 12 people = £60 per mackerel) The Camel...

Supervision Failure Costs Council

A county council was found negligent when a pupil was injured during a break at school when he was hit by a rock thrown by another pupil. The case turned on a simple point – was it sufficient (as was the case in this instance) to have only one supervisor overseeing 150 children? The Court of Appeal found the council negligent, especially as one of the prime purposes of having the children supervised...

#194 The Underwater Menace

Another reconstruction sadly , but a good one! A quick trip down to Atlantis and our heroes are soon battling the evil Zaroff . Universally panned it is often compared to a B-movie. Well I like B-movies! Arriving on the coast Polly thinks they're in Cornwall again but The Doctor notices the volcanic rock so they're not in Britain. Soon they're in Atlantis and the sequence where Polly is turned into...

A reward for a very diligent horse-owner

I went to see some horses in Cornwall a few weeks ago, and posted about them earlier: http://rockleyfarm.blogspot.com/2009/10/quote-of-day.html As I won't be seeing the horses regularly, it was wonderful to receive an email today from the horses' owner, giving me an update. Her Arab horse, in particular, had been worrying her because he had become very short-striding and when I saw him was landing...

Brittany sketches

I spent more than three glorious weeks in Brittany and became completely enamored of its tranquil beauty and its intimate scale. It is less dramatic than I'd imagined, less rugged than coastal Scotland and Ireland, less vertiginous than some of the places in Cornwall I remember, more temperate (there are palm trees and camellias and fig trees in the Golfe du Morbihan!), more feminine somehow, more...

Trader Gray passed away

Images from This is Cornwall TERRY Gray, known familiarly as Trader Gray, ran the Shiver Me Timbers salvage yard in Penzance, Cornwall UK. His ramshackle yard in Long Rock, where he lived and worked, featured a large mock pirate's galleon built from reclaimed wood. A YouTube video shows him heating bricks by a woodburning stove which he placed in his bed and night to keep warm. His business was open...

Rock band Ash to tour A to Z

So, Aldershot does not have the glitter of Los Angeles, or the rock'n'roll heritage of Liverpool and London. What it does have going for it, as far as the rock band Ash were concerned tonight was that its name begins with A, making it a perfect location for the first gig of an eccentric A-Z tour of Britain. Though the band has sold millions of albums worldwide and can fill big venues in much larger...

Single minded man

It is unlikely that any rock star has ever drawn a comparison between New York City and East Grange. Yet that's exactly what Tim Wheeler – the singer, guitarist and creative force behind Northern trio Ash – does while discussing his four years of living in the Big Apple. "New York's a great place to make music, as you can find lots of brilliant engineers and technicians to work with,"...

Smeaton's Lighthouse lit by candles again

Our local media have been faithfully reporting the anniversary of the first lighting of Smeaton's Lighthouse on the treacherous Eddystone Reef. To be precise it was 250 years ago from this last Friday that 24 candles were first lit in the lighthouse and on Thursday evening the great and good congregated at the lighthouse on Plymouth Hoe to re-enact the lighting of those candles. I won't repeat here...

Cornwall

We've just come back from a lovely long weekend in Cornwall. On Tuesday last week our friends Carol and Albert came to visit us, and then on Thursday we all went down to stay with another friend at a property she part-owns in Cornwall. The Dome House is set on a Country Club estate and was very comfortable. The weather was extremely kind to us and we were able to do a lot of walking (the other four...

Weekend wishes..

Well it's the weekend... and I'm off to spend a day and a half at Linda's Scrapbook Weekend at the Polurrian Hotel, Mullion. Hope the mizzle which has descended on us today is not in for the weekend , otherwise I may not be able to see the Island from the hotel. Years ago we went to Mullion with Ross when he was about 5 years old, he saw Mullion Island and some other bits of rock off the coast and...

Tesco.com - My Poor Customer Experience

This year we holidayed ’staycationer’ style in Cornwall. Rock, to be precise, where the large gull wing houses remain unsold amongst the debris of the banking crisis. This being peak season we thought that it would be a good idea to organise an online shop to coincide with our arrival. The only online store that [...]
