Ofsted brands child services 'inadequate'

A council issued an apology to children and parents yesterday after inspectors labelled its attempts to look after its most vulnerable young people "inadequate". Dean Ashton, head of children's services in Cornwall, resigned ahead of the Ofsted report.

The Helston-Lizard area has emerged virtually unscathed from the threat of post office closures in Cornwall, announced on Tuesday. Only two are involved in this area - at Ashton and at RNAS Culdrose. There is now to be a six-week consultation period with the public before a final decision is taken.
