While the motives for the recent murder of Mary Fox in Bodmin, Cornwall, are not yet known , it is fairly clear that her son Raum Fox has been a victim of hate crime in the past. According to The Times , Raum had been bullied at Bodmin College about his acne and reported learning difficulties. He recently moved to St Austell College to escape the bullying. As with the Fiona Pilkington case, there are...

After these three days walking we had a rest day, I certainly needed it! I hadn't done any walking preparation this time so it took me a while to get into the swing, Tim had been doing regular walks so was on better form than me, and, no, Big A, we did not walk through the delights of Newquay itself! We're doing the walk.. but we're not daft! We have granted ourselves a Cornish Walker's Poetic Licence!...

Western Greyhound recently took over the Bude to Callington section of FDC's 76 from Plymouth. But now WGL has taken full control of the route, and I must say its a very impressive start. I was presuming to see a usual Vario on the service, though in fact it was being operated by one of the brand new '59' registered Optare Solos. Apologies for the bad photography, I was playing about with the camera...

The rest of my family all live in towns and therefore compared with myself there are more facilities immediately available. I have to say that there are towns not too far from here in which I could be fairly content to live, Tavistock being the classic example. Cities - big, anonymous, noisy; not for me I'm afraid, I'll stick with this village right now. As I drive but don't have an imperative to make...

The seasons have gone three quarters full circle: the Scillonian is so far into the harbour she is practically on the Ross Bridge and the baulks are in place protecting Mousehole harbour from the winter storms. I am back to cycling in the dark, usually in wind and rain, looking a complete plonker in my high-viz jacket and fluorescent ankle bands, the road bike is moth-balled away awaiting the return...
