70 not out

From the the Oxford Mail, earlier this month: Last week's article on Witney prop Mark Serle prompted reader Tony Verdin to get in touch. Serle wondered, at 49, if he was the oldest first-team player Oxfordshire. Verdin said: "I cannot match Mark Serle's achievement as I have never, apart from some tour games for Henley and Miami, played first team rugby. "I have, however, kept going, and at 70 played...

Costa is a coffee shop, not a créche

Most people have a degree of civilisation about them. Any degree. From a wafer-thin veneer to a big fat juicy chunk of civil behaviour. Today, on our trip ‘out and about, exploring the towns, villages and countryside of Oxfordshire’ we stopped off in Witney and used the large, comfortable Costa. A Day Trip To Witney

My youngest daughter was the chauffeur for the day and took myself and my partner to see all the old places I remembered including my old home. Snow Watch 2008 - Leg 2 False Alarm

Well at least in Oxfordshire it may have been a false alarm. There were reports of isolated snow fall in Witney, Wallingford and Wheatly but I saw nothing. The sky looks a bit snow-like but the weather warnings were withdrawn today and nothing seems to be on the horizon. Leg 2 was indeed a false alarm unless there is some snowfall overnight. Either way it is still early in the season and I am looking...

Prophet Iain Dale: A plague on all your houses, O Oxfordshire !

Iain Dale includes a locust swarm for Oxfordshire in his predictions for 2008: David Cameron forced to cancel trip to Rwanda after his Witney constituency is affected by a plague of locusts. As it happens I have a solution for them, since Oxfordshire is probably the heartland on earth for Ducks (apart from the "Eeyup Ducks" of Yorkshire and the Midlands).

Goliath Wins: BMW Prevails In UK Court Battle Concerning Footpath Closure

In what has been described as a David (Ramblers’ Association) vs Goliath (BMW) legal battle, UK district judge, Witney, decided to allow the car-giant and Oxfordshire County Council to close a 2000 year-old-path that stood in the way of development at MINI’s plant in Cowley, Oxfordshire. The Ramblers’ Association (a group that represents and promotes walking) supports that up to 400 people use
