Traditional seaside rock spotted in Morecambe, Lancashire the other day. Sugary teeth damaging goodness for a quid (1 GBP). Other football colours are available but no away kits - that would be just confusing.

Morecambe in Lancashire has followed the classic trajectory of the British Seaside town. It moved from 20's elegance and sophistication through to 30's and 40's Family Holiday Fun, 60's and 70's Kiss-Me-Quick Day Tripping and finally slipped down to 90's giro-on-sea squalor when even the low-budget "Frontier Land" couldn't make an honest profit to survive. The nadir must have been when petite Noel...

The concept of fun in the sun – at an affordable price – caught on and by the 1970s we were abandoning British seaside resorts in favour of sunnier stretches of sand. In 2006, over 16 million people holidayed in Spain each year.

I've been fascinated by the Midland Hotel in Morecambe, Lancashire for a few years now. It's a beautiful Art Deco hotel with a glamorous history, but, since the late nineties, it's been abandoned and in a state of disrepair. In 2003, though, it was bought by Urban Splash who have now returned it to its former glory and it will reopen on
