Can Crewe become the political centre?

With the by-election dominating proceedings in recent weeks it's easy to forget that we have now entered the final year of administration under Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council. A couple of weeks back, the first meeting of the Cheshire East Unitary Shadow Council took place at Crewe's Municipal Buildings. A fitting place but will Crewe emerge as the best location to establish a base for the new authority?...

Saturn heads to Middlewich...

Update from Saturn, the restored Shropshire Union Fly boat that is! As part of the Cheshire's Floating Garden Festival the boat was pulled by Bilbo (big horse) from Audlem to Nantwich on Sunday. The lovely vessel seen here with that mayoral party who have enjoyed far too much blog publicity over the last week ( photo from TimP ), but I suppose they do work hard for local charities and organisations....

Attempts to stir class war backfire for Labour in Crewe & Nantwich

The pretty village of Tarporley in Cheshire ought, in some minds, to be the boiling crucible of class conflict in Britain. But to the dismay of Labour, and the Tories' delight, it has refused to co-operate.

Columns: Political fall-out

ON SATURDAY, I decided to get away from the sulphurous political atmosphere that pervades the town halls at Wallasey, Southport and Liverpool, and take some fresh air in the pleasant Cheshire town of Nantwich.

Crewe & Nantwich

I made a flying visit to Crewe yesterday evening to support our excellent local by-election candidate Edward Timpson, who I’ve just noticed has a blog on the Crewe & Nantwich Conservative website. Morale is high and the campaign seems to be exceptionally well organised. I’ll be back in Cheshire later this week - not today unfortunately [...]

A sixty year-old mother from Nantwich today admitted that she had ‘unintentionally revealed the fact that her son and his wife had their photograph published in the society magazine Cheshire Life.’ ‘I can’t believe it slipped out’ said Mrs Alice Warburton, a retired post-mistress. ‘When my son told me that the photograph of him and his wife sipping champagne at the NSPCC fund-raising ball whilst wearing...
