Here’s a follow-up to last weekend’s unusual goings-on at Crewe Station. The BodyCartography Project (USA) and Cheshire Dance joined together to redefine and explore what many consider to be one of the UK’s iconic railway stations. Put simply, a dazzling array of dance, film and music was staged across the station’s platforms. Impressive stuff, albeit a tad highbrow depending on your outlook. The

Last Wednesday a group of around 20 local businesses met at the Crewe Arms Hotel. They were there to listen to the CNBC Mayor Brian Silvester talk about how council services will be affected from next April when Cheshire East assumes overall control. The Federation of Small Businesses is the largest organisation of its kind in the country, representing small and medium sized businesses and the self...

. For once we're not talking about whether Crewe's train station will move to Basford. Instead, there's something very different going on across the platforms and stairways later this week (25 – 29 September). On Saturday morning I waltzed over to the footy pitches behind the Peacock pub/hotel. The miniature railway fellas ( South Cheshire Model Engineering Society ) were hard at it running their dinky locos, while just over the hedge there was a serious grudge match being played out between the Motley Crewe and Port Vale supporters' teams. I only caught the first half ( there were beers to be had over Gresty...

Cheshire East has its new logo and I reckon most will be happy with it. Comments the other month saw many Crewe blog reader prefer the wheatsheaf option and that's the one that will adorn signs and documents across our slice of the county. In fact, the new local authority's badge depicts a wheatsheaf bending under an east wind. An impressive 2,000 questionnaires were completed online to help make the...

A couple of weeks back I met up with Edward Timpson, new MP for Crewe and Nantwich (Cheshire) for a feature for the Big Issue in the North. Much was made during the by-election campaign earlier this year about Timpson's privileged roots - Labour Party activists waged a toe-curling battle against him clad in top hats and tails. It backfired spectacularly and the Tory overturned a huge Labour
