The area we live is so close to the border that being in Wales we miss out." You may remember recently that Audlem in Cheshire wanted to move out of England because of Welsh health service benefits and before that there was Berwick upon Tweed announcing it wanted to join...

WE had better start making a list. The English are voting on whether to become part of Wales and if we haven’t got a list before we know it they’ll all be in. Visit Audlem for the launch weekend, 7 & 8 June, of Cheshire’s Floating Garden Festival and experience what life was like on board a Shropshire Union Canal Fly-boat, or try your hand at the traditional canal arts whilst enjoying local music from the Crofters,...

The residents of Audlem don't appear to have much cause for complaint. Their leafy, canalside village in Cheshire is a picture postcard countryside idyll that regularly wins various "Village of the Year" titles.

The Cheshire village of Audlem has voted to become Welsh. An online poll of villagers resulted in 80 votes in favour of joining the Principality and 44 against. It started as a joke to highlight disparities between England and Wales: the Welsh Assembly Government has scrapped prescription charges and parking fees at most hospitals, whereas [...]
