Received the following e-mail from Lewisham Council, which is self-explanatory. But it is disgraceful that it has taken so long to repair! I will be asking what will happen to the 181 and 225 buses. Dear All, Owing to a broken sewer on Hither Green Lane, just east of the roundabout at the junction with Courthill Road, raw sewage is being expelled onto the highway and requires repair as soon as practicable....

Just to let people know that the Council will be delivering leaflets this weekend consulting on a proposed 20mph zone in the central Lewisham area. The boundaries of the proposed zone are formed by Lee High Road to the north, Lewisham High Street to the west, then up along Mount Pleasant Road, Stainton Road, with Brownhill Road forming the southern boundary, and the Hither Green railway line forming...

A quick note on Monday's Full Council meeting. The Mayor of Lewisham updated us on the post office closures. As you may have noticed, the Post Office has ignored local opinion and closed the three threatened post office including that on Hither Green Lane. Lewisham Council is negotiating with the Post Office to see whether some solution could be found similar to that in Essex, but those negotiations...

Not a lot of people know this, but the Greenwich Meridian runs right through Lewisham Central ward. Even fewer people might know it in future, because some barbarians have pillaged the monument marking the Meridian line on the Bellway development on Hither Green Lane. Nicked the metal plaques commemorating all the other homolongitudinal sites on our Meridian. Right opposite where I live, so I suppose...

The Triangle is one of the best kept secrets in the ward. It's a surprisingly quiet and peaceful area of land in a gully between platforms 4 & 5 on Hither Green station which had become derelict until my colleague Cllr Andrew Milton (Lewisham Central ward) and I kick started the restoration process by making funding available from the 2005 Locality Fund. Since 2005, working in partnership with Network...

The Post Office's intention to close the sub post office at 116 Hither Green Lane is a double double whammy for Lewisham Central ward: it comes on top of their closing the branch at 107 Lewisham High Street and adding a small post office facility at the nearby WH Smith; and It aggravates the effect of the closure of the nearby Spotted Cow pub on Hither Green Lane (see my earlier blog entry on this)....

Residents in Fernbrook, Manor Park and Southbrook Road will soon be consulted by TfL (Transport for London) on possible changes to the Hail and Ride sections of the 273 bus route which runs from Lewisham, Tesco – Hither Green – Lee - Grove Park – Chislehurst – Petts Wood. From TfL's consultation letter: This route operates on a Hail and Ride basis in Manor Park, Staplehurst Road, Fernbrook Road and...

We've been advised of a proposed change to the 273 bus route: Changes to route 273 Lewisham – Hither Green – Winn Road – Grove Park – Chislehurst – Petts Wood. It is proposed to operate the 273 two way via Burnt Ash Hill and Winn Road rather than southbound via Woodyates Road. This will give quicker through journeys for passengers travelling to Petts Wood as well as offering a standardised routeing....

Richard at Baggage Reclaim has posted a sound recording of one of his favourite London sounds, to be found on the train 'somewhere between Lewisham and New Cross ... Every morning I take the 7.07 train from Hither Green, which is mercifully quiet, and listen to the sound on this recording. I think it's the sounds of the springs below the carriages compressing and expanding as the train sways from side...

Despite my raising it as a question in Full Council earlier this year, Lewisham Council have done absolutely nothing about the disgraceful state of the paving stones on Hither Green Lane between Duncrievie Road and Brightside Road. In case they are in any doubt about the seriousness of the issue, I spent some time this weekend doing a house-by-house census of the pavement. And this is what I found;...

Your Councillors were out and about (very!) early on Wednesday 10th October, carrying out a rail survey at Hither Green Station. We were working with our colleagues in Lewisham Central Ward (who represent the other side of the tracks) to find out what local people think of services from Hither Green. We’ve been inundated with responses and my colleague Cllr Brian Robson is currently collating the...

The deadly virus which is threatening The Spotted Cow on Hither Green Lane is spreading to Rileys snooker hall on the corner of Lewisham High Street and Courthill Road. Residents are already up in arms because The Spotted Cow was sold over the heads of the managers to property developers who are threatening to knock it down and replace it with yet another block of flats. Which would be a crying shame,...
