[from Hornsey and Crouch End Journal] Knifeman ‘using nature trail’ to target women nlnews@archant.co.uk 17 September 2008 A KNIFE-wielding robber might be using Parkland Walk to move unchecked through Haringey, say police, after a series of terrifying night-time strikes on lone women. Officers have linked six robberies in the space of 14 days to one suspect, and all have taken [...]

That's the headline in the Hornsey Journal this week: MORE than 500 residents concerned about council plans to cut Haringey's parks police force have contacted the Liberal Democrats, a councillor claims. The news comes as Labour-run Haringey Council announced consultation will begin on proposals to axe the parks constabulary and replace it with community policing which, it is claimed, will increase...

Friday saw - after my advice surgery - a meeting met with our new Borough Commander - David Grant. He served in Haringey when Highgate Police Station was still open (oh - those were the days) and at Hornsey Police Station - so is familiar with the terrain! We ranged over the ills of the world, policing, where resources should be put and so on and so forth. This was our first meeting - so think we were...

Surgery, then met new Head at Hornsey Girl's School (what a great new head!), then had my usual meeting with David Sloman (CEO of Whittington Hospital - who assures me that my endless banging of the drum on how patients are treated in terms of care and compassion is now top of the list) and then on to Haringey's new Sixth Form Centre to present a prize to one of the Haringey Heroes. This is an awards...

Cllr. Ali Demirci is the latest councillor to cross the floor on Haringey Council from the Dim Lebs to Labour. Why? Because the Lib Dems don't have anything positive to offer the people of Haringey. At the recent elections, they lost two out of the three contests in Hornsey and Wood Green and, worse still, were a poor fourth in Tottenham - behind the Greens. The Conservatives locally and nationally...

Keith Flett kindly wrote in the local newspaper about my push to get Oyster more widely accepted on train services: Full marks to Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, for raising the issue of pay as you go Oyster Card use on rail networks in Haringey. At the moment they can't be used on the line from Finsbury Park through to Hornsey and beyond, although the train operator First Group...

Hunter had the honour on Sunday of representing the Conservative Party at the wreath-laying ceremony in Tottenham. Here in Haringey, we have three ceremonies: in Hornsey (where we Conservatives were represented by the dashing Nicola Bates), the main Civic ceremony at Wood Green (represented by Eyvind Andresen) and the one here in Tottenham, which I always attend. Readers of this blog do not need a...
