Greenwich Council has refurbished a two-bedroom house in Plumstead to showcase some of the most up-to-date methods of saving energy. The Council deliberately selected an existing 80-year-old home, rather than a new-build property, to show that bringing an existing home up to good environmental standards need not cost a lot. A £50,000 grant, from the Thames Gateway [...]

Excitement is mounting with further 'evidence' in the polls of the Labour Party's recovery albeit only back to where we were pre-Brown. A magnificent polling result in Plumstead highlights the powerful influence of a well-organised campaigning CLP in Greenwich and Woolwich. As Political Futures opines it is too soon to start making any judgements about the [2008] conference season. There are lessons...

Great news in Greenwich. Last night in a by-election in the Plumstead ward, Labour retained the seat with 6.6% swing from the Tories. Hospice worker Matthew Morrow won with a 776 majority, with the Labour vote going up 13.25% on 2006. Fulll result: Labour 1320, Conservative, 542, Lib Dems 195, Greens 175. Looks like the first example of the post conference Brown bounce. Well done to all at Greenwich...

As Greenwich Watch and the NewsShopper , among others, have reported, Councillor Kanta Patel of Greenwich Council passed away last week. Our condolences to her family and friends. Cllr. Patel had served on the Council for a very respectable 21 years, and was last re-elected in 2006, for Plumstead ward, with a 581 majority over the Conservatives.

A visit to Plumstead and Abbey wood, to see Lesnes Abbey (now how is that pronounced'). I've never been to Lesnes Abbey before, although I've been to the old suburb Abbey Wood which is named after it. I walked on a sunny Sunday down to Deptford, calling in at the Parish Church of St Paul, which is well worth a visit if you can ever get in, and catching a bus to Plumstead. I then walked to the Abbey...
