The perils of not scrutinising candidates properly...

Not that the man and woman on the Croydon omnibus would have noticed, there is another election taking place in North America, and it is the NDP, the nearest local equivalent to our own dear Labour party, that keeps falling over its shoelaces - four of its candidates have had to stand down becauuse of earlier acts of folly - or worse - showing up on the internet . Given that there are 308 seats in...

Walk in the woods. Croham Hurst. 3rd October 2008. (video)

Join me in a stroll through this lovely wood which has been used by man since Neolithic times. Popular with dog walkers, horse riders and families it really is a haven of green just a short way from the centre of Croydon. Walk in the woods. Croham Hurst. 3rd Octonber 2008. from Sitbonzo on Vimeo.

Dance: Skweee, the future sound of Scandinavia

Sometimes new sounds emerge from the most unlikely places. Croydon helped spawn dubstep; Bolton the Blackout Crew's donk. Now it's the turn of Scandinavia, home to a new hybrid known as Synthetik Skandinavian Funk or "skweee". Yet what sounds like some awful novelty dance craze is in fact a curious mix of instrumental R&B and minimal techno. According to Fran Carlqvist, founder of Stockholm-based...

What has the EU ever done for Croydon?

Judging from using the search facilty of the exciting new financial transparency site , it was diddley squat last year. Rooting around on the Defra CAP search site shows that the fortunate Mr M W Keyte, whoever he is, received €309.21 last year The UK got €1.023.527.191,45 and France €1.238.664.985,87. I am fiddling around with search parameters to see what else I can turn up, but just who is the unnamed...

A very, very early start...

...on Saturday morning, cycling to east Croydon station at 5am in order to make it to London to catch the train to Birmingham. I was off to Maryvale , to begin a degree in Theology! I'll let you know how things progress. This first weekend of lectures was simply terrific and I am feeling very enthusiastic indeed.

As soon as you ban a blog you immediately bring attention to it and its message or Croydon hotbed of revolution.

HM Revenue & Customs has blocked a website run by one of its sternest critics from being accessed by staff, who have in the past posted there. The site is run by Ken Frost, an accountant and occasional visitor to this column, who has also campaigned against Croydon, his local council, and the accountants' trade body. In this case, I have some sympathy with HMRC because the site is often very rude indeed....

Kid's Shows = Impure Thoughts?

When you’re home with kids all day, thoughts go through your head. Some of those are, um, impure thoughts. And sometimes those thoughts settle on some fairly odd choices. Which is why I found this article from the Croydon Guardian over in England to be screamingly funny. Weekend radio host and mother of two Natasha Desborough has published her own web-only off-the-wall parenting guide, and while there...
