Camden Green Party are currently contesting a winnable council by-election in Kentish Town. All the signs are that the Greens will be able to improve on their previous second place and actually win the seat - although unfortunately nothing is guaranteed in this world. Our candidate, Victoria Green , is the only contender that actually lives in the ward and her record as a community campaigner makes...

These multi-strap and buckle boots from Marc by Marc Jacobs take me instantly back to my days of clubbing at the Electric Ballroom in Camden town. Far from being bog-standard bovver-boots, however, these Marc Jacobs creations have an unmistakable designer flair and fashion makeover with their stylish cone heels. Streamlined, yet chunky and definitely tough, they'll give you respect whether you choose...

Locals are referring to the The Kentish Town snap by-election called for 30th Oct as the Arizona by-election. Philip Thompson has a lot to answered for since his sneaky flit to Arizona. His sudden departure without informing the local residents has irk so many people. Would have thought this would be a safe seat for the LibDems, candidate Nick Russle but reflecting on the local mood at the moment,...

News reaches us of the BNP standing a candidate in the Kentish Town by-election, now known locally as the "Arizona" by-election. One of our party members was googling our latest fascist, and came up with this frankly barking letter to the Camden New Journal, "So barking", our comrade writes, "I remember reading it the first time round." High price of the King's Cross loss• IT is sad that the campaigners...

A new website and brand for Camden Town has been launched…. While the website is beautifully finished I cant help feeling I have seen the site and logo before. Comments anyone? The website was designed by delete “The campaign came about after the fire,” says Bertie Miller, founding partner of Watermill London. “The media story went out that [...]

Rereading my post from yesterday on the Hampstead Town by-election I'm struck by how little judgement I passed on the loss by the Tories of a second councillor since May 2006. To paraphrase Lady Bracknell, as so many have done before me, "to lose one councillor, Mr [Marshall], may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose [two] looks like carelessness." Why are the Camden Tories haemorrhaging votes when...

Camden Labour last Thursday selected youth worker Awale Olad to fight the Kentish Town ward by-election, caused by the sudden resignation of Lib Dem Cllr. Philip Thompson after his secret move to Arizona, U.S.A. Awale, 23, is a well-known community worker with the Somali Community in Kentish Town, and has argued for more funding for youth services - a key plank of his campaign. Awale grew up in Camden...

I've decided to use this blog for my eco musings from now on - hence the name change to www.ecocouncillor.org.uk. After all, the main reason I went into active politics was climate change, and I am Chair of Camden Council's Sustainability Task Force , so it seems reasonable to concentratrate my fire on environmental issues. But I can't resist a quick comment on yesterday's by-election in Hampstead...

Very bad news for the Camden Conservatives, as the results show a significant swing from the Tories to the Lib Dems in battleground Hampstead Town seat. On a turnout of 36.7% (around the borough average at the last election, but down from the ward's show-stealing 49% marker) the Conservatives appear to have gone down from around 47% in 2006 to 39.5% in 2008. Meanwhile the Lib Dems appear to have shot...

Hampstead local campaigner Linda Chung has won the Hampstead Town by-election today, gaining the seat from the Conservatives. So much for the Cameron steamroller! She was a brilliant candidate and the Camden LibDems have a formidable election team. For those who don’t know (or have forgotten), they surged in the 2006 local elections to become [...]
