"Squeezed between an almighty concrete cinema complex at one end and a giant intersection at the other, Cricklewood was no kind of place. It was not a place a man came to die. It was a place a man came in order to go other places via the A41." Ouch. To make matters worse, that stinging description of a London suburb comes from a local girl. Double ouch. What Zadie Smith sets out in the opening...

The multi-storeyed and bland new buildings that make up an extension to Battersea Dogs' Home. A questing muzzle heart-breakingly visible at the bars of one room, but otherwise strongly reminiscent of an Ibis chain hotel. Bromley South, this is Bromley South. Recent tagging on the inner wall of the bridge at the country end of the platforms. The usual tightly squiggled signatures, then in the same script...

Saturday the 14th November saw the wedding of Janine and Ryan at St Joseph's Church Bromley with the reception at The High Rocks in Tunbridge Wells. Sat the 14th also saw the first major storm of the autumn, with gale force winds and rain from the church service onwards, eventually calming down towards the evening. Janine and Ryan kept smiling throughout though, I could tell that the day meant so much...

One of the conservative councillors in Bromley has turned out to be a racist. No surprise there. You can read about it in Anton Vowl's typically infuriated blog entry . Like me, he's not surprised at what the councillor said, or at the conservative party's condemnation, or even at the way the Daily Mail presented it. It's the reaction of commenting readers that gets him, but again, no surprises there....

...not quite the same as the old Tories: A councillor has been suspended from the Conservative Party after sending emails ranting that prospective parliamentary candidates do not have “normal" English names . And if that was the sum of it, it'd just be another excuse for the hard-of-thinking to drag out their 'racist' banners and swamp all forums. Oh, what am I saying? They will anyway....
