Duncan Borrowman supports call for energy independence

I don't usually blog my press releases from my PPC website on my blog. But I thought this one deserved it, lest people thought the anti-environmentalism Lib Dem blogs reflected the views of the party. Old Bexley & Sidcup Liberal Democrat candidate Duncan Borrowman has have given his strong backing to ambitious calls by Nick Clegg MP for Britain to become self-sufficient in energy. The Liberal

Is the writing on the wall for the man from Hornchurch?

As many people will have seen Old Bexley & Sidcup Conservatives are parachuting in an MP who's Essex seat is being abolished to replace Del Boy Conway. James Brokenshire, was born in Southend (I was born in Dartford), went to school in Essex (I went to school in Bexley) and never seems to have lived in the area (I've lived 19 years in Bexley, 15 in Chislehurst, 5 in Orpington, 2 in Beckenham and

Congratulations to James Brokenshire

I know all of the people who were in the last four of the selection for Old Bexley and Sidcup and I had no doubt that the constituency would get a great candidate and future MP. OB&S selected James Brokenshire, the well respected MP for Hornchurch, whose current constituency is being disolved. He will work hard, I am sure and I look forward to campaigning along side him. Well done James and

No local councillors on Old Bexley & Sidcup Tory shortlist

According to Bexley Tory councillor Melvin Seymour in the comments on Conservativehome: "...no Bexley Councillor has been deemed good enought to be chosen for the final selection panel" Now, this does surprise me. Whatever I may think of the local Tories policies, they did a pretty impressive job on delivering votes for Boris. I am not going to plump up any egos, and to be fair I don't know the

Massey the Meals on Wheels stealer gets dumped from Tory shortlist

So, according to Conservativehome, Sharon Massey the megaphone stealer who axed pensioners Meals on Wheels in Bexley while voting herself a pay rise has been dumped from the shortlist for the Old Bexley & Sidcup Tory PPC selection to replace Derek Conway. What a shame, she would have been a great target, maybe the Tories thought that with all the pensioners voting against her she would be a

Understatement of the year

The new Old Bexley & Sidcup Conservative website says that it has been an exciting year... So much so that they have done some judicious cropping of the picture on the front of their homepage. Spot the lapel with the sticker on the left. Well now take a look at the second picture taken at the same time. Well what do you know, it is Del Boy Conway himself, cut out of Old Bexley & Sidcup

Tories start Old Bexley & Sidcup selection

The Conservatives have started the selection process for the candidate to replace Derek Conway in Old Bexley & Sidcup, applications close on 30th May. I am waiting to see if: 1. The Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards announces the result of the investigation into Henry Conway's employment before the new candidate is announced. 2. The Tories select a local candidate.

Jobs for the boys, Ian Clement quits Bexley

The Leader of Bexley Council, Ian Clement, has resigned as a councillor to become Bobo's Deputy mayor in charge of government relations (at home and overseas). So there will be a by-election in the Christchurch ward of Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency. This is the man who has overseen the increase in Council Tax and cuts to vital services. Oh well, he says he will stay living locally while

Matthew Casey elected to Liberal Youth Executive

News reaches me that Old Bexley & Sidcup Liberal Democrat camapaigner Matthew Casey has been elected to the Executive of Liberal Youth. Matthew organised an event late last year where I went to speak to students of St Luke's College in Sidcup. Good luck Mat. He will be a great asset to Liberal Youth.

Columns: Should we sack MPs?

DEREK CONWAY continues to represent the burghers of Old Bexley and Sidcup despite being found guilty of flirting his son Freddie megabucks of our money for apparently non-existent research. A group of Tory backbenchers are floating the idea that a recall petition should be available when voters feel their MP is not delivering the goods.

Busy weekend

I'm sorry that blogging has been so light over the last few days but I been rushed off my feet. On Friday evening I addressed Bexleyheath & Crayford Conservative Association, Old Bexley & Sidcup Conservative Association and then finished the evening at the Orpington Conservative Association. We had a full day of canvassing and delivering in Beckenham, and after picking my father up from the

Blue-Gold Coalition to Save Queen Mary's Sidcup

Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in the London borough of Bexley don't always see eye to eye, not least since the LibDem PPC for Old Bexley and Sidcup, Duncan Borrowman, has been trying to shame local MP Derek Conway into resigning over his parliamentary family business. But such enmity was set aside today, as respectable numbers from [...]
