Tordnado

While everyone else was headed for the heath on Saturday night, Vicky was steaming off in the opposite direction. She'd heard that the Tornado steam train was coming through, and wanted to sit on a fence and wave a hanky as it passed... The Tornado is the recently-finished built-from-scratch A1 Pacific Steam Locomotive . I remember the hoo-ha around its completion, thinking what a wonderfully romantic,...

Fireworks

Was it me, was it the new fenced-off corralling system or were there just loads more people than ever up at the Fireworks last night? Not that it's a major problem - the heath can take 'em all and it was all a very good natured affair as far as I could see (save for the hatchet-faced driver hooting angrily and trying to barge through the crowds afterwards that everyone seemed to be taking great delight...

Bright Lights, Big City

One of the great things about my recent discovery of how to embed video content is that I'm able to put things like this on the blog after depressing the hell out of you all last week. Seamus - to my knowledge the Phantom's youngest regular contributor at fifteen (unless Rod's had a very hard life...) has made this compilation of night pictures that have been featured on the blog over the last year...

Depressed Phantom

David's just depressed the hell out of me. Contrary to popular belief, I DON'T have a big problem with giant modern glass buildings - just modern buildings in sensitive settings. We've been worried for some time about what the hell will become of Trident Hall - not an utterly glorious building in its own right, I'll admit, but at least low-rise. We've known it's been hoovered up by the Greenwich Inc....

Music Lovers Unite

Joanne is thinking of starting "a regular meeting of local musicians, to chat about music and potentially form new bands," and is wondering if there's interest for such a thing in Greenwich. I guess it might initially follow a similar pattern to the book group that Kirstie set up back in the summer - send me an email if you're interested and I'll pass it onto Joanne. She intends to set up...

2012 Greenwich Park Tour

Strange, isn't it what you find when you're not looking for it. I've been trying to work out how the hell to embed video into the blog for some time (it was more difficult than it might at first appear since this site isn't quite what it seems technically, despite its Blogger shell...) but it was when trying to work out how to do something completely different that the penny dropped and I THINK I can...

Live Music, Dead Beer

The Phantom Webmaster has sent me a short but impassioned plea: "Is there anywhere within the O2 complex that one can get actual beer instead of fizzy keg vileness?" As regular readers know,I am not a beer-swilling Phantom, but the people I hang out with are, and I'm not aware of any places within the complex that can be bothered to give festival-goers the real thing. I will be delighted...
