A THREE-MAN frozen-food business in Essex is facing insolvency after Npower, the energy utility, sent it a £38,580.30 electricity bill. Dennis Barbrook, owner of Rigby Frozen Foods in Maldon, said he was shocked when he received the letter from Npower in December.

A seven-year-old girl drowned during a fun session at a busy swimming pool, despite the efforts of lifeguards. An attendant leapt into the pool to haul out the unconscious girl in front of swimmers after she was seen under the water at Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon, Essex.

TWO men are due to appear in court today facing a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent following a stabbing in Essex. Glenn Freeman, 18, a factory worker, from Maldon, and James Purdy, 21, a demolition worker from Heybridge, have been detained in police custody until their appearance in Chelmsford Magistrates' Court today.

Bramston Sub Aqua Club will be running a Wacky Races fun rally around Essex so the ladies from the committee met up for some top secret planning.
