This week I am taking part in the UNISON Leadership School course which is taking place in Stoke Rochford, Grantham. There are about 50 of us participating in the course. Lay activists from all over the union as well as UNISON employed staff (regional and Head office). This is the first such course ever run by UNISON (and I have not heard of any other union in the UK running anything similar). It is...

A Reece Styche double helped secure Chasetown a fine away win at Grantham Town. Styche, who spent part of last season on loan to the Gingerbreads, returned to punish the Lincolnshire side with two goals in the first 20 minutes for his new club. In the fourth minute he was pushed over while through on goal, and [...]

Trucks bashing low or narrow railway bridges cause hold-ups on the road, disruption to train services and costs millions of pounds every year to repair. The Office of Rail Regulation found in 2008 that vehicles hit almost 2000 railway bridges across Britain. Each bridge-strike requires suspension of rail services until a qualified engineer has examined the bridge. It comes as no consolation to those...

South Kesteven may finally be dragged into the twentieth century with the same travel concessions for elderly and disabled people as have been enjoyed for years in every other part of Lincolnshire. The Conservatives who run the Grantham based South Kesteven District Council have finally been persuaded that they can afford to offer free concessionary travel on local buses before 9.30 in the morning....

Lincolnshire and Fenland Families : "Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. Since starting my research I have learned a huge amount about my ancestry and those connected to it and know that there is much, more to learn about the people, where they lived and what their lives were like - and I have quite a few more ancestors to find too! I have lived in Wiltshire...

Local Conservatives are outraged at a decision by their Party to parachute another Londoner into a Lincolnshire parliamentary seat. Some are threatening to quit Cameron's Conservatives after learning that all local applicants to replace disgraced North Hykeham and Sleaford MP Douglas Hogg have been excluded from the selection process - without even reaching the interview stage. Mr Hogg hit the national...

Sunday 13th September, Cut End, Lincolnshire, 9:30 - 12:30 Feeling much better today. I have a bit of a history, and not a positive one, when it comes to King Eider. In particular the first time I went to Shetland in 2005. A drake was seen at Collafirth, so that was the first place I tried after arriving in Lerwick, but no sign. However, I didn't realise until later on that there are TWO Collafirths...

As I briefly mentioned last week dad likes BBC local radio. Given our locale we kept going between regions and I ended up hearing bit of BBC Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicstershire and Cambridgeshire. They are all the same, same sort of format, same sort of programmes and very little Englander. On my own I'd NEVER listen to them, the phone ins are scary. BBC Cambridgeshire had a piece on the residents...
