They didn't set any questions about movies this week in the quiz but they did slip in an Anagrams round of 5 questions, however one of the clues, number 3, gave the answer as being 5,5 when in actual fact it was 5,6 so that puzzled me for a while. Here are the anagrams if you want to have a go, but I guess they are more for those of us living in the UK. Can you unscramble these TV stars past and present?...

The number of children telling ChildLine about sexual abuse by women has risen partly because many more boys are calling us It is always particularly shocking when a woman abuses a child. Myra Hindley, Baby Peter's mother Tracey Connelly and now the Plymouth nursery assistant Vanessa George , inspired a very special horror. We hope that women have a natural maternal instinct to protect and nurture...

For actors, there's always a role for conscience, says Samantha Morton Last week Nicole Kidman told the US Congress that Hollywood contributed to violence against women by portraying them as sex objects, and Matt Damon revealed that he turned down scripts if they featured gratuitous violence. How hard is it for actors to make decisions of conscience? I have a huge issue with Hollywood actors who don't...

Havent added any new work for a while, I sort of put this blog to the back of my mind. I hope you can see some of my developing within my work. This is some work that i am working on at the moment, i am looking into conveying silence. I am very interested in how an image holds power. I must say working with this image of Myra Hindley has made me silent with different emotions.

Very happy to see the Bolton actress Maxine Peake plugging The Fallen in the Guardian. I loved (if that's the right word) her performance of Myra Hindley in See No Evil and more recently her appearance in David Peace's Red Riding. Funnily enough David Peace used to see the Fall in the days when they played miners' clubs around Wakefield. Thank you, Maxine. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/oct/05/maxine-peake-my-media...

...when you read tomorrow's headlines about the Little Ted's sex abuse case, and the no doubt reams of 'analysis' to come. Here's a taste of those headlines: The Telegraph : Trawling the internet: Colin Blanchard The Mail : Trio 'met' on Facebook and exchanged pictures via email The Guardian : Vanessa George: from angel to paedophile. Seen as an 'angel' by parents at Little Ted's, Vanessa George developed...

Barack Obama's pollster thinks it wise for Labour to conduct a campaign of class warfare against the Conservatives in the coming election. Never mind the fact that Ed Balls, in charge of education, is a privately-educated, Oxbridge son of a privately-educated Oxbridge scientist . Never mind the fact that the deputy leader of the Labour party is not just privately-educated, but a full member of the...

Damien was actually my nickname amongst some of my friends at school. Reuters reports on the ten most feared names: 1) Damien 2) Myra 3) Carrie 4) Rosemary 5) Judas 6) Adolf 7) Pandora Regan 9) Samara 10) Boris Myra is obviously about serial killer Myra Hindley. Carrie from the film of the same name and Rosemary from Rosemary’s Baby. Judas needs no explanation, neother does [...]

PAEDOPHILE ring victim Dana Fowley roused inmates into a rage against her mother by appealing to them on a loudspeaker from the jail gates. Prisoners were heard screaming "kill the beast" inside Cornton Vale after Ms Fowley vented her fury at the collapse of a gang-rape trial. Two men accused of abusing her walked free after her mother – who is serving 12 years for her part in the...

I know this is a delicate subject, and one which nobody dare say anything about in case of reprisals from the Government's Department of Lunacy, but the latest proposals from Nanny should be enough to strike fear into the hearts of every parent. Not fear of perverts doing nasty things with our children, but fear of the fear of it, which is now setting us one against another, and making us not only...

THERE are prisoners, there are political prisoners and then there are politicised prisoners. In the latter category, we must place those whose crimes, real or alleged, attain such notoriety that the quotidian standards of the law are somehow suspended. Pull a bank job, take out a contract on an unfaithful spouse, set up as the local smack dealer, trade shares on inside information; if you are unlucky...
