Now, how many have even one staff member responsible for managing online distribution via RSS, e-mail or Facebook? Damn few. How many newspapers have [...]

The Oct. 16 Alfred E. Smith Dinner in New York was a beautiful example of civility during a political campaign, and both John McCain and Barack Obama spoke with humor and respect. There was only one sour note that evening. It was Obama’s unnecessarily bitter remark , referring to McCain’s complaints elsewhere about news media bias: “By the way, John, I’m just curious, is Fox News included...

... a simple rule: don't repeat something if you don't know it's true. Just parroting what another news organization reports in an "unnamed source" report is bad journalism. I trust my sources and the sources of my Newsday reporter bretheren. I can't trust another newspaper's sources because i don't know who those sources are. Most of the time sourced reports turn out to be true....

Right before the 9:35am segment on Monday's Today show, a commercial from NBC News aired announcing a special DVD on Barack Obama's life story for sale on its Web site. What is particularly odd is that a news organization would actually use Obama's own campaign slogan to title the DVD, and if memory serves there was no special DVD offered for George W. Bush's inauguration. How...
