Serle wondered, at 49, if he was the oldest first-team player Oxfordshire. Verdin said: "I cannot match Mark Serle's achievement as I have never, apart from some tour games for Henley and Miami, played first team rugby. "I have, however, kept going, and at 70 played...

Most people have a degree of civilisation about them. Any degree. From a wafer-thin veneer to a big fat juicy chunk of civil behaviour. Today, on our trip ‘out and about, exploring the towns, villages and countryside of Oxfordshire’ we stopped off in Witney and used the large, comfortable Costa. Well at least in Oxfordshire it may have been a false alarm. There were reports of isolated snow fall in Witney, Wallingford and Wheatly but I saw nothing. The sky looks a bit snow-like but the weather warnings were withdrawn today and nothing seems to be on the horizon. Leg 2 was indeed a false alarm unless there is some snowfall overnight. Iain Dale includes a locust swarm for Oxfordshire in his predictions for 2008: David Cameron forced to cancel trip to Rwanda after his Witney constituency is affected by a plague of locusts. The Ramblers’ Association (a group that represents and promotes walking) supports that up to 400 people use
