The agreement to build missile defences in Poland has been much in the news lately but here in North Yorkshire we've had this kind of thing for many years. I don't know if the Fylingdales warning station, which sits on the hills above Whitby like a giant sandcastle (one of those square ones made with a proper sandcastle bucket, not a plain old round one) rattles the russians as much as the as yet unbuilt...

We travelled up to Whitby today, which meant driving up through the North Yorkshire Moors. Ever since first driving on them all those years ago, I've loved the openness and beauty of the Moors. We stopped for lunch and just enjoyed being under our Yorkshire sky for a while. And what a sky it was today...... The dome thing in the background is the fixed radar array of RAF Fylingdale .
