I've been a fan of Hughes' since seeing some youtube video of him in the summer of 2006 . That was his best year as a pro: he quickly ascended to Trenton and destroyed the Eastern League as a 20-year-old . He was better than Clay Buchholz at a younger age. He's given up just eight home-runs in 310 minor league innings with a .92 WHIP and only six hits/9 innings. We've also seen flashes of brilliance...
According to PA again , Goofball and fan-favorite Shelley Duncan was DFA’d today by the Yankees creating a spot on the 40-man roster. Certainly a move that makes sense as Shelley never really fit into the Yankees plans. His brother Chris and Dad Dave are in the Cardinals organization so maybe he’ll catch on with them. In other news, lefty Phil Coke, who worked out the bullpen late last season...
Two other things from today (via Sam Borden): The 40-man roster move was Shelley Duncan being designated for assignment. ... Brian Cashman said Phil Coke has been told to prepare to come to camp to work as a starter. No surprise with the first move. Here’s hoping that Shelley gets a shot someplace else. I think in [...]
... The fifth starter is going to come, at this point, from one of those kids [Alfredo Aceves, Phil Coke, PhilHughes and Ian Kennedy] fighting for that spot. If that changes, we'll let you know."Veteran pitcher Jason Johnson, who pitched in 16 games for the 2008 Dodgers, has been signed to a minor-league contract, manager Joe Girardi added. When the Yankees introduced Sabathia...
... there is no need for him now that they’ve signed Sabathia and Burnett and to simply let young guys PhilHughes, Ian Kennedy and Alfredo Aceves fight it out for the fifth spot. Others think that Pettitte is insurance, especially for a guy like Hughes who some believe will never live up to his potential. I don’t think the Yankees need Andy Pettitte. The feeling I get is they...
The Yankees still have a hole in the rotation in the #5 spot if you aren’t considering PhilHughes. I think Hughes would be a great #5 starter, but some people are upset about that. Many think they should either bring in Pettitte, (which I’m not against) or sign/trade for another starting pitcher. Oliver [...]
Warner's blistering 35-ball innings, which included four massive sixes, put the Blues in a wonderful position chasing a below-par target of 161. But three wickets in two overs from Redbacks firebrand Shaun Tait put the shakes through the baby Blues. PhilHughes (30), Moises Henriques (6), and Dominic Thornely (28) all fell to the raw pace of Tait, who was impressive on his return from...
... 2009 season , why not just allow Ian Kennedy to pitch? I know the standard reaction is to say that PhilHughes is the frontrunner for the 5th spot, but all he has shown at this level is that he can’t replicate his mechanics enough to stay at this level (injuries are a result of his mechanics’ repeatability). IPK hasn’t always been the most mature guy yet that’s not what you desperately...
... out Oliver Perez, but they certainly should not . Alternatively, they could open up the spot to PhilHughes , Ian Kennedy, or Alfedo Aceves in Spring Training . I still think that retaining Pettitte is the best option. The risk is obvious. Pettitte posted a 4.54 ERA last year, 5.35 after the All-Star break while battling shoulder issues. The Yanks would be gambling on him recovering...
And in any case, who would replace him? Like Prince Charles, the various replacements likely to find favour with Hilditch and his fellow selectors are also well into the second halves of their respective careers. Two who have been briefly tried are Brad Hodge (34) and Chris Rogers (31), while Michael’s younger brother David Hussey (31) is felt to be not quite ready yet. Phil Jaques (32) is also...
... $10 million is just too insulting? Are you comfortable handing the last slot in the rotation to PhilHughes or Alfredo Aceves ? Personally, I’m not. That isn’t because I don’t have confidence in either of them. I do, but I would rather see both of them start at Scranton and be available for spot starts and as replacements for inevitable injuries. Plus, with Joba Chamberlain in the...
... the side as an opener, hitting four hundreds in 12 matches. The man most likely to replace Hayden, Phil Jaques , will actually strengthen Australia’s batting. He averages 47 in Tests and, unlike Hayden, is on an upward curve. England supporters might want to note the name PhilHughes at this stage as well. 20 years old and with the priceless ability to score runs when no-one...
PhilHughes, Ed Ferrett “Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction, Second Edition: The handbook for construction professionals and students on NEBOSH and other construction courses” Butterworth-Heinemann | 2006-11-13 | ISBN: 075068111X | 536 pages | PDF | 38,4 MB
... in their respective careers, and he has so far been a more effective Major League starter than PhilHughes . We could even make the case that he’s better than Chien-Ming Wang and A.J. Burnett as well. The Yankees are far better putting a pitcher of Chamberlain’s caliber in the rotation than they are burning him in the pen. Chamberlain in the bullpen would most likely make each starting...
