Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog does a nice job summing up reports on the Pedro Martinez situation. Dylan Hernandez has said the Dodgers are not in on Pedro, but the righty has narrowed his choices to two teams in each league. The Mets are one known suitor - Omar Minaya will meet with Pedro next week. I've talked to many Pirates and White Sox fans who would like to see their...

According to the New York Post, Omar Minaya is expected to speak with Pedro Martinez’s agent next week. The Post believes Martinez could be open to an incentive-heavy, one-year contract to return to the Mets. Last night on the MLB Network’s Hot Stove Live, SI.com’s Tom Verducci said Martinez recently rejected a one-year, $7 million offer from an [...]

It was reported last night on MLB network during the Hot Stove show that Pedro Martinez had turned down an offer from an American league team which would have been worth 7-8M for the year. Apparently Pedro prefers to remain in the National league and there is believed to be interest from two teams. It's been said that Pedro was disappointed with his performance over the...

Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times believes two teams, one from each league, are interested in Pedro Martinez. From what I can gather, the Mets still have interest in Martinez, and are probably the lone National League team. I believe Omar Minaya is sincere when he says publicly that his team would bring Martinez back to [...]

I've come full circle on Pedro Martinez, when the season ended I wanted the Mets to move on from Pedro and either give the spot to Jon Niese or bring in a veteran for the spot. But now as time has past I think Pedro would be our best option as the fifth starter and when he goes on the disabled list it will be an opportunity for Jon Niese to get some no pressure spot starts....

... to be a negative influence, as Ramirez was during his final weeks in Boston. And don't count out Pedro Martinez just yet. As long as Petey remains unsigned, the Mets are bound to be a factor, and they could easily add him after Lowe or Perez. Martinez liked playing for the Mets. But will he fit as a back end of the rotation starter? And at what price? That seems difficult to...

... this is the Mets’ MO. We saw it last year, when they assured us that Orlando Hernandez and Pedro Martinez would come back from their various injuries and be stalwarts in the ‘08 rotation. For those who paid attention, Pedro was lackluster in 20 starts, and El Duque never left Port St. Lucie. Similarly, the Mets counted on Duaner Sanchez to be 100% (he wasn’t) and also planned...

Without Sheets, the rotation currently looks like Billz, Kuroda, Kershaw, MacDonald, and Stults/Schmidt. In three years, we may look at that and say WOW, but today it looks young and inexperienced. Instead of gambling on 3-4 years of Sheets, a 2 year or one + option on Pedro Martinez might yeild a bigger payoff. One for consideration, if the Blue want to join the party of sick contracts,...

Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times has the latest on the Dodgers, as well as free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez. Nothing much to report with Manny Ramirez - there has been no new offer from the Dodgers yet but the two sides are still talking. That two-year $45MM offer Scott Boras dissed isn't looking too bad anymore. Boras is "just looking for a situation" for Andruw Jones. I see. Boras...

He signed a 4-year free agent Major League contract with the New York Yankees in December of 2004. Carl finished the 2008 season in the New York Yankees rotation, making 7 starts to finish out the campaign on a healthy note (4-2, 5.77ERA, 34.1IP, 41H, 22ER, 10BB,...

(All are Cuban-born, except for the Peruvian Mr. Stagnaro, who was filling in for the Cuban Armando Gola.) Friday night’s early set, among other things, demonstrated Mr. D’Rivera’s deference to the audience. It started sweet and plush, and gradually became deep and complex....

... be settled in a spring training competition between Jon Niese, Bobby Parnell, Nelson Figueroa, Pedro Martinez, or Freddy Garcia. The fact is that the Mets only need the fifth starter probably twice during the month of April. They have plenty of time to settle that position in the rotation.

I understand the concept of negotiation and trying to get the player you want at a reasonable price but if you play hard ball you run the risk of losing that player. Omar has done a tremendous job in certain negotiation; Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran. But he has also miss-read the market badly at times over paying badly for Luis Castillo and completing missing out on...
