This week, Netflix was supposed to ship me a DVD. It wasn't anything special, a DVD of game show moments from the 70s. I got an email that it wasn't available at my local shipping center and was going to be sent from another shipping center. This happens quite often so I wasn't worried. The email said I would get it on Thursday. Thursday comes, and it isn't here. Since it came from farther away, maybe...

Netflix has been charging new members a $1 monthly fee, in addition to the price of their standard monthly rate, for the pleasure of renting Blu-ray discs, while those who have been members of the service for a long while have had no such increase to deal with. Well, as of November 5th, Netflix will make the $1 fee mandatory for all members. If you don’t want to rent Blu-ray discs, you are fine, no...

From multiplayerblog.mtv.com : [QUOTE] If you have a silver (free) Xbox Live account, you won't be able to stream movies from Netflix account when the "New Xbox Experience" drops this fall. "I think it's about adding value to the gold membership," said Xbox director of marketing Albert Penello. "I mean, obviously, the partnership there -- it's a lot of bandwidth. Obviously, there's the cost of the...

Dan Rayburn submits: Yesterday, the New York Times Bits blog had a post that rationalizes how Netflix (NFLX) could become the leader in online video content. While I agree that Netflix has made huge strides due to their deals with XBOX, Starz and of course the Roku player, the real question is how they plan to make money from this new distribution strategy? Each time Netflix streams a movie to your...

DVD rental giant Netflix is tacking on a $1 a month surcharge for customers who rent Blu-rays. This new Netflix HD fee applies if subscribers have ever rented a Blu-ray or indicated they’re likely to do so. Not just if they’re actively renting Blu-rays. But … why would Netscape customers with the HD hardware not [...]

If you have a Bluray disc player you'll need to be ready to spend a n extra buck a month if you use netflix to give you movies. They decided that they would raise the subscription price by one dollar for people who use their bluray discs. I understand that bluray discs cost a little more but I'm not sure if it warrants a dollar more per person.

Normally something like this bit of news really annoys me, but I can understand Netflix wanting to increase fees for people wanting Blu-ray disks. I called this way back in January when the HD-DVD group threw in the towel. I ranted about how consumers will louse, about how Sony wouldn’t lower the price on [...]

Filed under: News Joystiq -- otherwise known as the lucky bastards currently at the Tokyo Game Show -- have gotten a chance to try out the New Xbox Experience . There are some quibbles, namely that you still can't set your default online status and some elements -- like Netflix -- are oddly placed. Even with the quibbles though, the pros seems to outweigh the cons. The NXE is fast, Avatars are easy...
