It was a disappointing day today for United States diving team. Mary Beth Dunnichay and Haley Ishimatsu finished fifth in the women’s 10 meter synchronized diving competition. The divers were the youngest in competition, Dunnichay, 15, Elwood, and Ishimatsu, 15 but youth didn’t stop the Chinese from winning gold in the event. Beijing - It was easy to spot the Dunnichays on Wednesday at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Thirteen family members were dressed in matching white T-shirts with red lettering proclaiming "I (Heart) Mary Beth."

Twelve divers who have already made the U.S. diving team will compete in the Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships at the Rose Bowl. The divers include: - 28 year-old Troy Dumais of Ventura - 15 year-old Haley Ishimatsu of Seal Beach - 15 year-old partner Mary Beth Dunnichay of Elwood - Laura Wilkinson, 30 China is expected to dominate the diving at the Beijing Olympics.

American swimmer Dara Torres has dropped the 100-meter freestyle from her Beijing Olympics schedule, choosing to make the 50 free her only individual event in her record fifth Games.

Boca Raton resident Jevon Tarantino is Beijing-bound, after being selected to the USA diving team Monday. Tarantino, 24, will be competing in his first Olympics. He failed to qualify in 2004 for the Athens Games and consequently left diving to start a roofing business.
