Lewisham Council is doing a consultation on whether or not to turn off the floodlighting of Laurence House in Catford. This was prompted by a formal question from Brockley councillor Darren Johnson last year, who says it is a waste of energy and money. Darren argues that he doesn't oppose the floodlighting of beautiful landmark buildings, but that Laurence House Library is hardly the Arc de Triumphe....
The Friends of Hither Green Triangle Nature Reserve, in association with Lewisham's Green Gym, are holding a Clean Up Day in the Triangle (which is located between platforms 4 & 5 on Hither Green station) on Saturday 11th October starting at 11am. This is for over 18s only, and if you're interested in taking part there's a pre-clean up meeting of the Friends on Thursday 25th September at 7.30pm in...
Just boarded my first ever Talkie Bus. I’d read about them, but never actually experienced them… If you fancy giving one a try, just jump on a number 89 from Lewisham to Blackheath. At every stop a voice will bark “89″, followed by the (somewhat spurious) name of the stop. I think the problem is [...]
I wouldn’t usually recommend anyone going anywhere near flavoured milk, except that on this occasion, you can get to see several classic films for free. There are quite a few showing at Surrey Quays cinema (not a million miles from Blackheath - take a number 41 bus from outside Lewisham station). I saw Blade Runner there [...]
The 181 and 225 buses will be diverted as follows while the sewer is repaired at the junction of Hither Green Lane and Courthill Road: Routes 181 & 225 from first bus towards Lewisham only. Route 225 from Torridon Road at Hither Green Lane, ahead Torridon Road, right Brownhill Road, ahead Brownhill l Road, route 181 from Torridon Road at Hither Green Lane, right Hither Green Lane, right Brownhill...
Received the following e-mail from Lewisham Council, which is self-explanatory. But it is disgraceful that it has taken so long to repair! I will be asking what will happen to the 181 and 225 buses. Dear All, Owing to a broken sewer on Hither Green Lane, just east of the roundabout at the junction with Courthill Road, raw sewage is being expelled onto the highway and requires repair as soon as practicable....
Our sixth (my fifth, I missed one) Lewisham Bloggers get together at the Honor Oak (which is in Greater Brockley). In attendence: Andrew B (our leader) , The Dame , Clare , Andrew O , Michael , John , Andrew M , Claudia , Helen , Neil , Rob , and Max . Glad that the gender balancing of the Lewisham bloggers has inched forward. And that this time Andrew, Neil and I managed to avoid singing "The Red...
John Paschoud cross posted from Love Perry Vale: To Holbeach House in Catford this evening (a small change from the Town Hall) for a meeting of the Lewisham Homes Board. I’m one of the 3 Board directors appointed by Mayor Steve - in the sometimes fence-sitting position of having to “act in the best interests of Lewisham [...]
Just to let people know that the Council will be delivering leaflets this weekend consulting on a proposed 20mph zone in the central Lewisham area. The boundaries of the proposed zone are formed by Lee High Road to the north, Lewisham High Street to the west, then up along Mount Pleasant Road, Stainton Road, with Brownhill Road forming the southern boundary, and the Hither Green railway line forming...
I'm sure you'll be as pleased as I am to know that Manor Park has won a Green Flag in this year's judging, so joins the select list of eight Lewisham parks that have the coveted Green Flag: Telegraph Hill Brookmill Park Cornmill Gardens Chinbrook Meadows Manor Park Manor House Gardens Sydenham Wells Bellingham Green Of course if you have a flag you need a flag pole, and I understand Glendale will be...
We are lucky enough to live in the part of Blackheath managed by Greenwich council, who seem to have a more sensible policy on recycling than Lewisham. It means that we were given a little green “caddy” to place kitchen scraps into, which can then be transferred to larger white biodegradable sacks, and then [...]
From the email responses I’ve had it looks like Friday 25th at the Honor Oak works for most. So unless I get a stream of people telling me I’ve got it wrong it looks like thats where we’ll be from about 8 o’clock. Looking forward to it already.
Following up on Arachnophobia, I’m sorry to say that the rare spider found on Blackheath story was definitely a bit of a red herring. I contacted GreenScene (part of Lewisham council), and got a very helpful reply from the aptly named Nick Pond: Dear BB, I have enquired with a local entomologist who responded regarding [...]
