... League Cy Young Award winner should be, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com provides an interesting note on Johan Santana ’s season, writing: “Not sure anyone has noticed this, but he leads the entire sport in quality starts (with 23, one more than Lincecum). WASHINGTON - Kyle Kendrick is out and it is uncertain when he could be back. The Phillies will skip his turn in the rotation Sunday against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium to have Cole Hamels (12-8, 3.01 ERA) face Mets lefthander Johan Santana instead. Kendrick (11-8, 5.08) could pitch Monday against the Florida Marlins at Citizens Bank Park, or sometime after that.

The whole thing was laughable to begin with, the idea that by passing up the chance to trade for Johan Santana, the Yankees - the $209-million, A-Rod for 10 more years at $27.5M-per-year Yankees - were somehow embarking on a new era of fiscal responsibility and building from within.
