2008 Player Reviews: Eric Hinske

Hinske's first and last hits as a Ray were homeruns. He had a solid run through mid-September where his OPS was over .800. Frankly, this picture says it all:

probably no one else anyone else can stake claim on this proud Menasha Blue Jay ex-patriot, allow this humble Bugs & Cranks scribe to be the first to present something you’ll get nowhere else – a single reason I willingly desire the team I like to sign Eric Hinske. Oh yeah, and 19 more reasons too. 1. Unlike the now departed Craig Counsell, Hinske at least slightly resembles an...

Mystery Free Agent?

... this unnamed free agent is a low-key role player, someone like an Adam Everett, Gabe Kapler, Eric Hinske type. I suppose it could be a bigger name, such as Jason Giambi, Bobby Abreu or Joe Crede. We’ll let you know when we come across something. Jason A. Churchill: “ I hear the free agent is a bit of a surprise…”

More, Re: Giambi

The average American League designated hitter had a wOBA of .341, or generated 1.38 runs per 600 plate appearances. The Rays DH collection of Cliff Floyd, Eric Hinske, Jonny Gomes, and others combined for a DH wOBA of .338, or about two less runs per 600 PA than the average DH. Jason Giambi has had wOBAs of .418, .350, and .379 the past three seasons. In fact, Giambi's wOBA low since...

More Rivera

In the field : ~ -0.7 wins (and positional adjustment of -0.75, so more) At the plate: ~1 wins Playing time: 70% Wins above replacement level: ~1.5 Eh, back to being lukewarm on the idea, but something screams Eric Hinske about him, that deal didn't work out too awfully. I'm obsessing at this point. Rivera's a mini-Vlad type, but he's also what you'd expect from a mature Delmon Young....
