It appears that Bernie Ecclestone's radical plan to replace the current points system with a medal system will not be introduced in 2009 after all. The governing body is far from enthusiastic on the proposed change. The FIA is also not convinced that the F1 teams are supporting idea of Ecclestone as the F1 supremo claimed yesterday.

That year Alain Prost won the title by an impressive 16 points despite winning two races less than Ayrton Senna. And 20 or so years ago, this problem was all the rage – between 1976 and Prost’s 1989 win, the title was won nine times by drivers who would have had their hopes and dreams smashed to pieces by Ecclestone’s new plans.
